Ok, So 7.7 for Creators Update, and 7.9 for Fall Creators Update. So I assume each 6-monthly Windows update wll require a new version of MSMG, and MSMG versions won't be backwards compatible. That's fine, just as well I asked, because I usually don't keep lots of old versions of tools around. I have a spreadsheet for tracking other related stuff so I'll just update that to keep track of which versions of MSMG work with which versions of Windows.
how many times we need speak that this thread is ONLY for MSMG Toolkit and NOTHING related to NTLite oh my God!!!
[edited for clarity] Having cumulative update (CU) problems after removing system components? Toolkit 7.9 implements a new method of removing system components. System components are things like Defender, Internet Explorer, etc People are reporting that CUs stop getting applied after using Toolkit 7.9 to remove system components from rs3 (and possibly rs2). The reasons for CU failure will likely continue for all future windows builds. The CU failure can happen right away or after a period of time. At some point in the future, either a new tool applying a new method of system component removal will emerge or the current Toolkit method will mature and the situation for rs3 (and beyond) will likely improve. You're saved from experiencing CU problems if you're: Only using the Toolkit to integrate packages Your removing Windows apps and not removing system components Your working with rs1 (1607 or LTSB 2016) and earlier windows builds. Here are a few posts from this thread explaining why this problem is happening. I deleted Windows Defender from the image version 1709, but now I need to return it. How to do it??? Please help, it's very necessary!
You didn't understand. What I wanted to say with what I said was that I can use apps maybe because I used NTLite after MSMG ToolKit.
And even after that it wouldn't be enough because NTLite would still remove more things than it but the problem would be not having the paid version of it even though the free version removes a lot of things and at least in my case some of the main things (I'd sacrifice some things that can't be removed by NTLite's free version and MSMG ToolKit to focus on the most important) I want to remove but can't because I don't have the paid version can be removed by using MSMG ToolKit. I use the free version and because of that I have to use MSMG ToolKit to remove some things the first can't and since it was told that the latter had problems with RS3 if many things are removed I only remove the things I want (which aren't that many) which NTLite doesn't remove. I also tried using WinReducer (which is free) after using NTLite but I had problems with it.
7.9 is a special case since a new method of removing the components has been implemented. When this new method is more mature the newer versions will be backwards compatible.
Yes, as long as you're not removing system components. See: "Having cumulative update (CU) problems after removing system components with MSMG Toolkit?" in my signature
