An idea: If we use let's say a 1803 image with every metro app removed on our computer. Then we set registry entries like "disableOSUpgrade" and "AllowOSUpgrade 0" etc. to avoid automatic feature updates ever 6 months. Then, when for example the fall update comes out, could we use MSMG on that newly released image in the same way and manually upgrade the system with that image? That would enable manual upgrades without getting all the junk back. Could be worth trying. Cheers.
+1 good question. how can one keep the 'state' of his MSMG modified image in production over the new versions pushed out two times a year. technically it is a new windows version afaik...
Exactly. Tom said it even better. Preserve the state of the modified image, because what is being pushed is actually a whole new install. I found a regfile over at askVG with some entries to block the so called "feature upgrades". Normal monthly updates will still be installed. In this way we can use a more recent build as compared to LTSB, and still be on the safe side when it comes to the bloat being pushed twice a year. Cheers.
I have no idea why anyone likes LTSB at all. You can download, modify and install any build you want and have a far more tailored experience. LTSB users seem to always be complaining about something. Its almost as if its kind of a crappy option.
Anyone knows of a "windows search" replacement alternative ?? (full replacement, providing seamless/integral shell integration/replacement).. I mistakenly removed the search feature along with cortana when with MSMG.. I'm seeking for potential alternatives/workaround first. Search Everything by Voidtools does the job, but partially only.. I'd love to find some way to redirect the now "disabled" <search on type> from within the start menu, so that when I start typing, it does so in Everything instead.. (not sure its worth the time required to look for such a reg tweak however.. if any exist at all) I'll take any hints/advises.. Thanks
The 1803 is full of bugs (check windows 10 reddit and you'll see), 1709 is meh, 1703 is usable, 1607 will not receive any updates for now, I understand your opinion but you forgot that MSFT is adding a lot of useless features and then, they forgot to fix their OS, the main reason of why I'm using ltsb is that I don't have any bugs or problems on it besides, I don't need to care about upgrades... But, like I've said, I respect your opinion.
I found the way, sorry for my ignorance, the way to look, is open the regedit after the load, and with the prefix "tk_" is the mounted registry.
Not sure what you are you are doing with these builds but all of the bugs I have seen are corner cases, not having any issues with 1709 (with current CU) or 1803. I don't use any of the new features, just rip them out. I use the current builds to have the best core OS.

In terms of OSes, LTSB is ancient (2 years old.) Only meant for commercial, industrial use it is not a consumer product. Use it if you wish, but I prefer the most recent. I don't rip stuff out, I add stuff in.
A lot of features were changed/added on 17672 so that explains the many errors, the tool will need a update.
