Updated the Dell's User.bmp and User810.bmp from a Dell Logo Pack (via Dell's website), so if it looks awful, blame Dell. MRP9x is at Internal Test 3, i was going to call it 90.1 refresh, but as quite a bit of new bits done and added it will eventually become 91.0 Everything added/changed so far is working, so it may not be too long before it is in the RC stage. I have been asked a few times about Search Indexing, if it can be an option to turn it off, it will be mainly for users of SSD's as it will help prevent extra wear etc, for a normal HDD it can also help with 'HDD thrashing' the side effect would be on a HDD that over time it may become slower to search for files etc. If there is enough call for this option then it can be added before the baseline release. I have put together the reg entries and the two services to be disabled and tested outside of MRP install and they do turn the indexing services off. The reg entries are to prevent the yellow line appearing when searching that the indexer is turned off. You can easily revert later by setting the Search options within the explorer window and also turning on 'Windows Search' and "Superfetch" services via the services.msc applet if you wish to turn it back on again. Also I have added the reg entries to allow the user to change the 'Diagnostic & feedback' in PC Settings 'Privacy' from Full/Automatic to whatever you wish on RS4 (17134). I may of added those already to MRP90.0 i cant remember as the code base has changed a bit since then. This also may of already been done in a recent Cumulative Update? It works on 17134.1 anyway.
Added the 'Disable Search Indexing' option to the config creator and the routine into MRP's code base. Install test with option enabled was successful. If enabled Project.log will show: [NOIDX] Applied: Disable 'Search Indexer' tweak. Attached screen capture (and yes i have now fixed the spelling mistake )
I thought superfetch service is for helping apps and programs to load quickly and better managing the memory used for that and not related in any way with search as windows search is a separate standalone service but nice new option of indexing disable, i'm with it
Re SuperFetch, It does help load apps/programs quicker for a standard HDD, but on a SSD it can cause unnecessary writes as they have their own indexing system built-in. But because it is linked with the Windows Search it is known to be best to disable both WSearch and SysMain services. For a normal HDD as mentioned you can get disk thrashing and basically slow the OS down while it is re-creating the index database. So it is up to the user if they want to use the option or not, it can be reverted as mentioned in a previous post if they have used the option to disable and then require to turn it back on later. As most users these days have an SSD i can see a few people wanting to make them last a bit longer!
Query Tool v57.0 has been uploaded and 2nd post download link and password updated. Spoiler: Quick Summary A slight refresh of v56.0 but with extra checking if 'possible' License tampering is detected. This only shows on the saved report due to display space shortage. Rare this line will be shown unless the QT cannot determine the Status which can indicate tampering of system files for the License area. Also added DMI checks for AORUS (Gigabyte) and OMEN (by HP).
MRP 91 RC2 Completed all tests. Found a spelling mistake in one of the new log lines added and have sorted that now. Will most likely release it as baseline tomorrow as my internet connection is playing up today.
Just doing a few last minute tests. So will be probably about an hour or more time i get the tests all done and the change log sorted as most is written just a few edits to be made to that now. I know a lot of you are eager to thrash test this MRP.
Vbox is a bit strange as you can really play about with its config file to allow a SLIC and DMI entries, i used to use VBox a lot at one time.
