Due to possible issues with InSpectre #08 on Windows 11 builds that causes setup/oobe to 'hang', i have auto disabled this routine to hopefully prevent such problems.

It seems that with the latest W11 Dev and GA updated builds that the InSpectre checking program has problems, it may be only on the later 9th and above generation Intel CPUs as they have internal hardware mitigations for Meltdown and Spectre?

As a precaution I have just auto disabled the Meltdown/Spectre routine when Win 11 is detected, this may change if/when the InSpectre program is updated...

This auto disable is for MRP 144 and the next QT 121, testing is ongoing....

 

The auto disable of Meltdown/Spectre for w11 works on my test install

It no longer mentioned in the MRP's log when win 11 detected. Although i did put a line in to say it has been auto disabled but it not appear minor issue and does not stop the project working

 

Fixed one issue and now have another ---- a long delay in oobe before you get to enter the username etc....

Not sure if it just on the latest dev w11 build or it on a 22000 GA with latest CU added that this delay is being caused...

Always something m$ changes silently and it causes other issues...

Cant release MRP or QT until i know what this damn glitch is ...

Microsoft Malware Protection -- looks like Defender is being ultra sensitive??

It looks like it not like the Smartscreen.exe being disabled/removed

 

My first test install hung on that addon screen, but i left it while i had to do some washing, when i got back to the PC the desktop was there. However my ScreenSnip was not working, i put it down to a corrupted install somehow caused by one of my personal tweaks i used outside of MRP...

 

Made some adjustments to 144 RC3...

Added more log lines in the 'early' log file which should hopefully pin point where exactly it is stalling, i have an idea but need to test first...

Just created a new ISO image of 22000.588 which i went to use and forgot to 'fix' it for the 'This pc can't run windows 11' message , done that and copying the files to the USB stick as i type, so fingers crossed that bit works and i can get to test 144-RC3

 

144 RC3 appears to work on latest Win 11 (22000.588) - no longer seems to hang on the Defender/SmartScreen sections in the addon manager script

It was something to do with Defender's service, it not like to be disabled, so have made a check for w11, (any Build), and if installed then it will ignore those lines which made the script 'hang'.

Defender should still be disabled, but you must do a reboot cycle to make the other registry/policy etc settings work.

I know i sound like a broken record repeating that but a lot of stuff does require a reboot cycle to make whatever was done get applied fully.

Just doing a 2nd test install to make sure the first was not a 'fluke'

Note: If you remove a lot of the Apps via the options then that will take a while to process them all, because the Powershell commands that are being used is painfully slow, so factor that in when using those remove Apps options!

On Win 11, Defender is still disabled as when you go into Settings > Privacy & Security > Windows Security then click 'Open Windows Security' you will most likely get a pop up saying 'You will need a app to open this windowsdefender link '

Have adjusted the code in the next QT and MRP so that when w11 is detected the Meltdown/Spectre routine should now show a line or two in the logs that is was auto disabled.

MRP 144 RC4 is in testing.... hopefully the 'routine has been disabled' lines will show now on w11.

 

Progress is a bit slow at moment due to other commitments but i am actively working on the projects as and when i can find time

The QT will probably be released before MRP 144 and both with a bit of luck will be uploaded before April.

I will pm you a link for the 144 test tomorrow , in about 7 hours time, as I'm not at home at the moment.

It will be rc3 as rc4 could be unstable as not had time to test it yet and as rc3 is stable it be the best one to use.

I think firstlogon.cmd is mainly called by a unattended xml file, i could be wrong as i have not used that method since win 8.0 days.

 

Notes:

If the computer has a msdm in the bios and no ei.cfg in the sources folder then oobe.cmd will be ignored by setup by default.

However, unless the install is done by another deployment method, the oobe.cmd should be called by windows setup if no msdm or by using ei.cfg to allow oobe.cmd etc.

Also if you are using other scripts etc along with mrp make sure to use the option not to auto delete the scripts folder at end of mrp because it will automatically wipe the scripts folder's contents if that option is not selected.
