Good question , not sure that can be detected easily. I did try ages ago to check for a recovery partition but that wasn't reliable as not all oem systems would have one. Registry would not be as reliable because the oem flags can be set by tools such as mrp to allow changes in theme etc during setup. I could look for signs of the stuff that a oem manufacturer would install but each has a different method. Will keep looking as it was on the 'to do' list but put on hold as mentioned above that too many hurdles to go over.
Tested a very old Vista era laptop on w11 insider... Slow was not the word , i think a snail with a limp would be faster -- over 2hours from start of install to then get to desktop! But i needed to reformat that laptop anyway so thought i try w11 on it Spoiler: MRP 146 RC2 Code: Multi-OEM/Retail Project Version : CY22M06D28-R146.RC2 - Release Candidate [MDL Forum ONLY] The extracted OEM's folder structure appears correct. I was testing RC2 to see if i could make the W11 start menu show with less tiles, but sadly not to be, seems m$ wants to put extra ones on to make a specific number of icons there.
Further poking about with the W11 Start menu , have managed to get it to just two icons 'Settings' and 'File Explorer', if less than 2 it seems to trigger the 'fill with others' method that m$ has decided to use... It is still experimental and has only been tested on a Insider W11 build, it should also work on 'RTM' ones. The Recommended section is blank on first open of the menu but it soon puts icons such as 'Get Started' there later on, but i will see if that can be cleared or at least one icon.. Not sure if it will work just for the first (Primary) user account or for any new users created later, but it in the right direction. The above changes will only happen when the 'Slim Win 11 Start Menu' option is selected for use, it is not forced by default otherwise.
phew! happy it wasn't a one off result in my test earlier - nice to see the w11 start menu with far less icons , and the two left there are of some real use. I will leave it as two icons as i know it could trigger the m$ response to start adding more icons to fill the menu to at least 7 items if i try to remove another.
Mrp 146 may be delayed due to a possible medical issue that could result in a few days away from coding, just awaiting confirmation for ct and mri scans. I will have my phone with me so i can log in to keep me from being bored.
Hopefully not, my neurosurgeon suspects the coils fitted in my brain to stop the stroke/hemorrhage i had in 2019 may have compacted and causing a leak of blood, may have to have more fitted. Just hope it not require clipping as that is major work. Have had bad headaches and blurred vision recently. Pushed my self a bit too much physically which increased my blood pressure.
When you would be banned for that i would physically visit that staff member and let them know my thoughts about that
Well the staff could see the edit history, doubt i would get a ban more a laugh, but to keep things clean i edited it.
At least my sense of humour is as twisted as ever Any way will see what happens over next day or so if i need more surgery. Just had phone call as i was typing this post, that was quick!, mri tomorrow morning 8am gmt.
