unrelated, but i've been wondering, you really do use windows 7 as main desktop system? (there's no offense/negation at all, i love windows 7) also amazing for almost 8 years straight
Yes, I do. Everything works, and I'm anti-Cloud (except in the sky) and anti-Telemetry, so, Windows 8 and higher does not give me anything I need. Why change that? That's only the latest reinstall I had to do. Actually, I'm using it as long as it exists. As I did with Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000, 98SE, 98, and 95 before. First encounter with Intel-type PCs was MS-DOS 4.01, and first own computer was MS-DOS 6.20+Windows 3.1+OS/2 3.0. Before Intel, I've used CP/M and computer types that many today don't know even existed. Has been a long time. But now you can see that I strongly dislike the new way of MS. Until 7, I was an early adopter, but now, I'm very conservative.
ofc, why change anything at all? i'm also anti-telemetry too, but i don't like some applications drop support for windows 7 (therefore my mind keeps fighting which windows os to use) i could switch to linux but i'm too lazy and takes time to learn, plus i would no longer be able to do windows servicing fun (dism) aside from wimlib but that's only for mounting and applying .wim/swm/esd (?) images i also like to use the OS as long as it exists (out of trillions of people and of all gazillion chances there could be one who's stuck with windows 9x in 2022 and uses it today, plus hackers would say "we can't make virus to infect windows 9x, that's too old, and who even uses it anymore" so no one develops software for it. plus if person has dial up/modem and still is on a active BBS that exists in 2022) even more unrelated topic: updating hp pavilion dv6000 that has vista home premium to 2022 i also have a lenovo thinkpad t430, but i need to restore it back to windows 7 professional (and to do more testing of a future thing in 2023...) furthermore i also have a hp pav ze2000 that has xp (and can't meet vista requirements) only 256 mb of ram, but if it were my only system i could use i would use that
Most things I use still support Windows 7. Those few that don't are mostly games, which get played on the gaming lappy. Old games get played on a dedicated DOS PC. My banking activities I do actually on a Linux VM.
I noticed that 'Acer, Inc.' was not being processed as 'Acer' for a theme name , fixed that now as the comma ',' upset the routine as it was looking for a space as a delimiter instead. If other brands are found to cause this weird issue then it is easy to fix. Although i think only Acer and Asus so far may have a comma in the results. Widened the GUI slightly to allow for more lengthy results. Added check to see if the virtual screen resolution is below 1024 x 768 and then to exit with a message box saying why the GUI QT has exited. Added the name of the DMI section that is used for the MRP theming next to the 'Possible Theme used' result. For example: Asus {System Manufacturer} Added a 'Debug Mode' that allows me to quickly test some parts when i am either notified or i notice a result that looks out of place - born from the Acer theme error mentioned above. This is a special mode that is not operative under normal use. For some strange reason the GUI QT sometimes 'hangs' at 10 to 20% progress, (ie for longer than a few seconds), a simple end task of the process via Task Manager fixes it and the next run of the GUI exe is ok. No idea why it does this but it is only rarely it happens. Another area i will be expanding is the 'Graphic Information' section but that will be a bit later as still ironing out other glitches before adding extensive code updates. Will upload this next test GUI shortly.
Looks better on w8.x Think the GUI size is about right for the time being, gives a bit extra space to show results, some still may get a bit chopped off at the end but the saved result logs will be full data and no chop off.
With the Product Channel i have noticed the KMS Client can show as KMS:Client , KMS_Client or KMS Client - yet if i check for those specific names i get syntax errors - but it not matter as at least it shows what is found.
In a very long winded way - AutoIT syntax is very strange and in batch you can use Find/FindStr easy , in AutoIt you have to mess about to get same sort of results. The code i use is not pretty as i have to bodge some things to get what i need in simple ways.
For w8 and above i use the usual wmi way and parse with objITEM via a for loop.. Code: local $oCollection = $oWMIService.ExecQuery("SELECT * FROM SoftwareLicensingProduct WHERE ApplicationID='55c92734-d682-4d71-983e-d6ec3f16059f' AND PartialProductKey <> null") If IsObj($oCollection) Then For $oItem In $oCollection $strDesc = $oItem.Description $LicenseStatusReason = $oItem.LicenseStatusReason $IsKM = $oItem.IsKeyManagementServiceMachine if $W7os = "No" then $ProductKeyChannel = $oItem.ProductKeyChannel IF $ProductKeyChannel <> "" then IF $ProductKeyChannel = "Volume:GVLK" then $LicTypeChannel="KMS:Client {VOLUME_KMSCLIENT}" $KMSisUsed = "Yes" EndIf ................etc With 7 i parse the Description ($strDesc) Code: local $strDescv7 = StringSplit(StringRight($strDesc,33), ",") local $qwe = $strDescv7[0] if $LicTypeChannel = "" then if StringInStr ( $strDescv7[$qwe] ,"VOLUME_KMSCLIENT",0) = "2" then $LicTypeChannel = "KMS Client {VOLUME_KMSCLIENT}" $KMSisUsed = "Yes" EndIf EndIf ............. etc I use the sort of equiv of batch FindStr ie StringInStr i split the description sting into the last 33 chars so that i get the comma delimiter which technically should be the last bit of the text after the comma to get the result. See what i mean about messing about in a long winded way you have to use arrays most of the time when splitting strings, you really have to think on your feet. Sod all is easy in AutoIT !! On w7/vista $oItem.ProductKeyChannel does not exist and causes a COM error, so i have to check a variable i done if below w8.0 and ignore that check/object and a whole new routine is used....
I do look for that Volume:GVLK but it only on the WMI ProductKeyChannel check on w8 and above, it not show in description which i parse for below w8.0 - but i think my crappy code does the job in some sort of fashion - it may get the odd one wrong on w7 but it as close as i can get.
ah but i not seen anyone use w8.0 yet so shhhh Easy to fix when it gets flagged up by a w8.0/Server 2012 user Edit - Just set a flag if win 8.0 or below then to not use the non existent ProductKeyChannel object to prevent errors and the routine will skip to the w7 code to look...
I used to use w8.1 (Home edition ) for a few years, i got it free as part payment for repairing a computer for a client, all boxed etc, i tweaked the nuts out of it as that start menu got on my wick
Took a few goes on the graphics code, but cannot seem to get the 'video memory type' such as DDR5 etc properly , there seems to be only 1 to 13 in the CIM_ or Win32_ videocontroller mostly appears to be 2 (unknown)!! May remove it as seems useless at moment. Added: Virtual Desktop Resolution Bits Per Pixel Video Memory Type (see note above) Video Mode Description (For win7 as cant get that info on w8 and above as it just errors so N/A shows for newer OS's)
