When i can work out how it can be done without those ugly edit/input boxes it will be added. The Input box method is not as dynamic as the CreateLabel method because they are mainly pre-set which you cant change the background color, font or size as easy for each one - its all or nothing, plus as i found out when i first wrote the GUI using them it looked horrible when a lot of text is being displayed as it always went out of alignment.
With MRP v151+ have updated a few log entries to cover W11 and above in the results as some i noticed was still just mentioning w10 Also have included a newer version of the 'UserTweaks.cmd' script in the 'Optional' folder within the MRP Archive, this has new variables to relate to windows 11+ only tweaks to separate them from w10 if you so wish. Remember this script is barebones and does not contain any tweaks as such because this is just a framework starting point to add your own bits in so it can be used with MRP. This script will be run as 'SYSTEM' and not 'Trusted Installer'.
As m$ seemed to have messed with theme stuff again not sure when that sneaked in but for some reason on W11 installs the Titlebar color was also used on the Start, Taskbar and Action Centre, so have added in a new option below the Title Bar/Highlight text color selection options in the Creator to prevent that like it used to before the OS changes. So then the Start, Taskbar etc will use a default color usually grey/black or even semi-transparent (the acrylic system ?). Note on W11+ during the title bar color change in MRP the title bar may become black or white by default while the changes are being made, it should change to Blue/Grey etc that you selected later after a reboot or the explorer refresh at the MRP's completion stage. The unlock defender code also appears to make defender use a lot less resources - unless you are scanning. This option also prevents submitting samples to m$ and cloud stuff so that absolute minimum telemetry is sneaked out. The option also turns off the 'DisableAtFirstSeen' setting to hopefully prevent defender grabbing files before you had a chance to take action. This however causes Defender to flag that up during a scan, you can allow it to be reverted or prevented from being changed from the option's setting, that choice is up to you. When using the Disable Defender option on Vista/7 kernels windows may complain that the defender service is not running etc, no idea how to prevent that. But simply not using that option in MRP and manually disabling defender in Vista/7 will prevent that and also Vista/7 actually obeys your selection and not turn it back on again later. MRP 151 is at TC4 test stage and is progressing along at a slower pace than usual but is still being worked on when time permits.
Note the accent theme color option may or may not work depending on if m$ force prevent that change, odd as you can switch it on/off via settings>personlize>colors - for now anyway, yet via registry during oobe the registry for that part gets reset... Have noted in the log that it may or may not work depending on if m$ are force locking it, no idea why but they have played about with the theme side recently, probably to force everyone to have their swirl picture and no longer allowing OEM's unless they pay up more to use their own logo's etc... I am just trying another method that sets the registry area involved twice or more, as on Home/Core editions a while ago something twice was needed in the theme section for that theme part to work. It appears to be on W11+ only the above strange behaviour happens...
As it only affects Win11 builds (so far) then i have set MRP to ignore/auto disable that option when a build lower than the latest win11 build is installed as it not affect builds below 226xx as far as i can tell... From my notes it appears the change happened after build 2248x when it would randomly happen, now it seems all the time on 226xx
I have appeared to have fixed the strange issue of the Title bar Accent color always setting the Start, Taskbar etc for builds above 2248x... Now if w11 226xx or above is installed and when the option to prevent the Start, Taskbar color from being the same as the title bar is used then it does not change it. Took about 9 attempts Log to show the changes as mentioned in previous posts... I not forgot Just been very busy for a while. This allows adding the HIPM etc to the Advanced part in the Power Options, seems to operate for Balanced too as i thought it was just for the High Performance option. Admin cmd required. Code: REM Enable Ahci Link Power Management to set HIPM ect for power options. REG ADD "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\PowerSettings\0012ee47-9041-4b5d-9b77-535fba8b1442\0b2d69d7-a2a1-449c-9680-f91c70521c60" /v "Attributes" /t REG_DWORD /d "2" /f Code: REM Disable Ahci Link Power Management to set HIPM ect for power options. REG ADD "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power\PowerSettings\0012ee47-9041-4b5d-9b77-535fba8b1442\0b2d69d7-a2a1-449c-9680-f91c70521c60" /v "Attributes" /t REG_DWORD /d "1" /f The above allows the user to select the setting. I tested on W10 and it appears to work with no odd effects. Example: Added it into MRP v151, well it was added in MRP v146 but it may not of worked as intended. It is on the 'General' tab in the creator and will be only operative for Win 7 and above, it is a 'Advanced Option' so the Creator will need to be run as Administrator to access the 'Advanced Options'. I have updated the wording in the Creator for this option along with the tooltip & msg box. If a Vista Kernel is detected then it will be auto disabled, before i think it only worked properly for 8.x and above, it now should work for 7 and above as long as the hardware supports it. I was going to convert it to a multi-selector but it not required as the OS will do that for me. Plus it is then up to the OS to set the default setting, and the user can change it if they wish, as long as they know the risks if they set it wrong! The above code(s) will turn that hidden 'feature' on or off.
Uploaded GUI QT v6.34, updated post #3 with new download link and hashes. A few tweaks here and there in the code. Added Zn (Zinc) release build reference when/if it becomes available. Reinstated the VRam routine with a slight adjustment, although it may not be 100% accurate due to the limitations in how to obtain greater than 4096 MB and the method used could get data lower than is actually there. It is still best to use DxDiag or another suitable tool to get your correct VRam if you require it. Note that the routine detects what VRam was assigned in the registry or via WMI, it also depends if the VRam was dedicated or physical such as on Intel internal graphics which can have 1MB or 8MB set aside and it is dynamically added to when needed from the system RAM, this dynamic state is not shown in the results only the initial value also shared ram may not be shown either. I am not going to spend more time on the VRam side as it is about as identical to the routine used in the original QT but with the added bit for addon cards with greater than 4GB ram, if the routine works as intended that is. At least there is some rough value shown.
MRP 151 is at RC1 stage Latest: Updated Unlock Defender so that the Cloud protection is now operative this allows it to be more 'protective', but the auto submitting of any samples is disabled. I had to work out how to have one and not the other, that side should be sorted so the Cloud updates are now operative but any sending of samples are still denied. Also added a new option (found under the unlock defender one in creator) to hide the Defender's system tray icon. It is auto applied when using the 'Disable Defender' option anyway but not with the 'Unlock' one so this is to hide it if the user requires but then they can still open the Defender app via the Start Menu or via Settings (unless it is hidden from settings too). For Servers and OS's below 10 this option is ignored. When using the Unlock Defender option and you do a first time scan with Defender you will most likely see a 'Threat - Severe' about 'DisableAtFirstSeen' you will be offered to fix the issue, or to select 'Allow on this device' (or words to that effect), all that tweak does is to prevent Defender quarantining the file(s) before you even get a chance to do anything with them, but the choice is up to the end user if they want to allow that to happen or revert/fix it back to default grab the file(s) before asking. It may also complain about Tamper being turned off, but you can turn it on if you wish as you do get to switch that on/off anyway. Real Time and Tamper is usually best 'OFF' when using another AV as the Hybrid mode isn't perfect and can cause issues with the two AV's running. Using Unlock Defender does make the AV use less resources but it still does use some for the bare minimum, automatic scanning is off by default with this option, real time is operative but as mentioned above it should not grab a file instantly if you just open a folder or USB/Media device, it may when you open/run a file but that is what AV's do. Most options in Defender are selectable but some may be greyed out such as the submit samples part because a lot of Policy edits are used. I have put in the 'Optional/MiscScripts/Win1x' folder some .reg files to undo the auto submit and other defender tweaks if required. Note they will NOT work properly if you have used the 'Disable Defender' option because that has more advanced lock down of Defender which makes it almost impossible to revert fully. Note that 'Unlock Defender' will tell MRP to ignore the 'Disable Defender' option, you can't have both! If the user has removed Defender from the OS by other means then the Disable/Unlock Defender options are irrelative anyway. MRP 151 has had many internal updates and so the change log has got quite large, i managed to keep my notes up to date as things progressed/changed this time.
Interesting observation about Defender's Tamper Protection... On windows 10 it gets set in MRP as disabled when the Unlock (or Disable Defender) option is used, yet in Windows 11 (2262x) it does not always turn off, the code used is the same.. Not an issue with the full Disable option as it is totally turned off regardless for w1x. Note that with w11, using the full 'Disable Defender' option may cause some strange OS slowdowns, i have no idea why but it may be because it is so integrated. Using another tool to disable it after OS installation, or remove it from the OS image before install may be a better way if you not want Defender running at all. Using 'Unlock Defender' does not have this behaviour on win 10 or w11, yet on w11 with this option used you can turn Tamper off and it stays off, real time may turn it self back on as that seems to be hard coded in the OS - unless you install another AV then real time should auto be set as off. -------------------------- Windows 10 and accent color for Task Bar... For some reason with w10 and using the Title Bar color (with or without the option to not change the Task Bar/Start Menu/Action Centre used) it seems to not change the Start Menu and Action Centre colors but the TaskBar color gets changed to the Title bar's Accent color (or a variant of it)... Not an issue in a way as you can simply go into Settings>personalize>Colors and select then un-select the 'Start, Taskbar and action centre' box to sort that out, seems the changes m$ made in the theme side in the OS does not always accept any registry edits for the Taskbar part. ---------------- MRP 151 RC1 appears to be fully operational and so it will become Baseline Candidate soon and released as the new baseline within the next week or two as still a few tests to carry out on different hardware i have etc.
[Note that with w11, using the full 'Disable Defender' option may cause some strange OS slowdowns, i have no idea why but it may be because it is so integrated. Using another tool to disable it after OS installation, or remove it from the OS image before install may be a better way if you not want Defender running at all.] Aha. Maybe that is why I have strange very slow problems with Windows 11. But the slowdown is not after installing Windows with MRP, but after new updates from Windows. After that I have to go back to restorepoint before Windows updates. Than everything is working wel again. But I am going to check if the problems are gone after I use other program to shutdown Defender Virus Protection. By the way. I did not exclude Firewall. Only Windows Virus Protection.
I read that a kbxxxxxx update for w11 caused a few issues mainly with ssd's and general file copying etc. But disabling defender in mrp could cause sluggish operation, but it seems to be on modern hardware ie amd ryzen 5, a pc i built a few weeks back was affected. I put a non defender disabled w11 on and all was ok. In the end i put on w10 that sorted all out.
