    Well the code it still there just reduced letters it looks at. There is a way with wmic logicaldisk get deviceid, drivetype and parse that for device type 5 or 2 but as the project not failed in that area before i see no reason to add even more code so it will stay as it is.

    Please consider. And then people who have a card reader is a big problem. A window that can not be closed.

    The FOR /F loop does not check C to Z, it works in reverse! ie Z - C in this case. so it would still cause problems as the code you posted would start at Z and go backwards to C which would 'see' the card reader before the usb/DVD drives.

    It also depends on how the bios is set up too in the order it looks to boot.

    Have adjusted code as follows, i will do a test, if it causes problems then i will revert it back to how it was. As you can see i have reversed the letter order as the FOR loop will check the last ( D ) first then look in each letter until it reaches ( Z ). Don't ask me why Windows does it back to front it's just a quirk how it does it.

    I avoided using the 'SetLocal EnableExtensions EnableDelayedExpansion' before as for some reason it caused some strange effects , but will do a test install if it works then the code will stay, any problems it will be reverted back. I cannot be fairer than that.

    Using the example that there is a PID.TXT in F:\Sources and also one in D:\Sources. The PID i want to find is in the D drive.

    The FOR loop (C D E F ----- Z) will result in: F:\Sources\PID.TXT

    Using reverse logic ( Z Y X ---- C) the result is: D:\Sources\PID.TXT which is correct.

    I think this explains how the FOR loop works ie in reverse lookup in this instance.

    The reason i check D first is because as we know drives start with A to Z. A & B floppies as was, C onwards usually are HDD's first then onto removable drives... Well that how it used to be lol.

    Anyway i am just about to compile a test then install...

    As you can see the pid/ei check was ok but it screwed up the project!

    It not set the Runonce part for the addon manager etc so the project did not fully complete.

    78.0.T3 (without the !zz! ie set zz=%%i) and no Local expansions) -- worked ok :)

    so trying a change of tactics with the expansion stuff on T4. I have to alter some important code that calls the add-on manager etc so if this is a success then the code will be left in.

    Will post results shortly....
