I've downloaded the file multiple times in the period since Update 1 was released (over multiple clean installs of Windows 8.1) and I've always had the same result which is that it just won't mount. The file always has the same SHA1 hash as listed here and on the MSDN site, and there is definitely no program open that should be using the file. I basically have nothing running at startup, no torrent programs open, etc. The iso is just a random file sitting in my disc images folder. Every other iso I have mounts fine, so I've just always assumed there was something wrong with how the iso itself was created by MS.
I've now verified the file with two different hashing programs and both return the correct hash. The iso also opens fine in UltraISO. I'm on a pretty clean install of 8.1U1, so I'm stumped as to why Windows fails to mount this particular iso. Does it mount for you guys?
UltraISO saves a new iso that is able to be mounted, but the file is now larger and has a different hash than the original iso. In and of itself, I'm not too concerned about this. It would still be nice to know why the official MSDN iso isn't loading on my system.
Had this several times with different ISO downloaded from the web . As long as you can be sure the original ISO was untouched the new hash shouldn't matter. How much is it bigger now? EDIT:===================== As the Windows mounting routine is picky sometimes, try to mount the original with UltraISO.
Dear Murphy, Thank you for everything you do to help those of us who are technologically challenged and/or financially challenged. That said, I could use some advice/assistance. I recently wiped my laptop and reinstalled Windows 8 and then got all of the updates etc. Then I upgraded it to Windows 8.1. I had to do this because I was getting a message saying my Windows 8, which came installed on my HP 2000 Notebook PC, was expiring. Also, I downloaded MS Office 2013 from your uploaded files and now I am wondering if it is compatible with Windows 8.1 and if there is anything special I need to do to install it properly and avoid any future issues with my OS system. Could you please advise? I'd truly appreciate your help. Regards, Angel
Okay...sorry, I was just trying to get an answer ASAP so I can get my work done here...took my two days to do the reinstall and updates. And, of course I'll use the default. I like to personalize things a little but no problem. Thanks, Angel
Windows 8.1 uses a different KMS version than 8.0 did. Office 2013 uses the Operating system's KMS version. So, yes, you will need to update your activation. I typically have the win8 activators in one of four folders. Here's the folders from oldest to most recent: C:\Program Files\KMSnano C:\Windows\KMSServerService C:\Windows\AutoQAD C:\Windows\AutoKMS You will likely find any sort of uninstall scripts in the appropriate folder. Use them, and then download and use the latest Microsoft Toolkit from either here at the MDL projects section or a certain pirate-themed website where I've uploaded it. It's the same torrent-hash. It really doesn't matter where you get the magnet from. Generally, when installing win8 or win8.1, if you already have a legit key in your system, you'd want to use that. There's a preserving oem activation sticky here in the win8 section where you can get a tool to find the oem key. After installing 8.1, you can change your key to that oem key and it will activate permanently. Also, if you have win8, and have it permanently activated via your oem key, you can just use the windows store to upgrade to 8.1. It will put your old files in c:\windows.old and you can fish through and find important data that might be discarded. When you no longer need the folder, you can run cleanmgr and click the system files link and it will give you an option to remove the old folder. You can PM me for this sort of thing. There's no need to spam the forum. Just, please, don't pm me every single day with a new thought. There are a few people that do that and it fills my box really quick and gets old.
Snuffy had a HP OEM Windows 8 Im wondering if he activation was actually expiring. since it came with OEM pre-installed. the MSG I rec'd was Free UPDATE to Windows 8.1 time is expiring. (I do have the USB Factory Recovery wheih I had used to restore (so I could sell) and the client called when this msg came up. It did take just over 3.5 hours for him to get the FULL OEM UPGRADE due to his slow internet. I just called him and told him how to check and YES, he says he has Windows 8.1 and is still Activated...

Murphy, thanks for all the hard work! I am using your work as a basis for my continued efforts on making a "better mousetrap". I am trying to use the install.wim from one of your SuperAIOs to create a bootable usb mod install. I have gotten pretty far but haven't been successful with the windows 8.1 to work. I guess I will need to go back and read and reread all your posts to figure out where I am going wrong. Thank you again for all your dedication!
