The Radeon series of graphics cards were originally products from the ATI Corp. AMD bought ATI later, but the name was carried on for some time.

Drivers must be installed, simply copying the file somewhere doesn't do anything. The package you downloaded should simply be an installation package, you execute it by double-clicking on it, then follow the instructions. When being asked for "Express" or "Custom", choose "Express". When it is done, it will ask for a reboot. After the reboot, everything should be solved.

Of course it's in Program files, but it's inactive without its graphics card.

please, be a bit more open minded, sometimes, you get shown alternate options that also work. DDU is a tool to uninstall graphics drivers that fail to do themselves (or leaving remnants).

    Hi Folks,

I wanted to thank Pamodnar for helping me on updating the AMD on my Windows 7.

    See enclosed screenshots.

But after installing the Catalyst 14.4 it does correct my Desktop icons the way I
created. HOWEVER, the screen resolution is still 800 x 600. Which I can tell by seeing
black bars on each side of the screen on my 14 inch monitor.

I went to "Screen resolution" to see what resolution it is at this time.

    It says 1024 x 768 ( recommended )

NO!!! And it's bad for your eyes!!!

    Microsoft doesn't know that.

But it listed choices of resolutions beside 1024 x 768

    There are

    1920 x 1080

    1280 x 960

    1152 x 864

I don't remember or I don't recall which resolution for my
CRT 14 inch monitor??? I should've checked it before
I ran into a resolution problem!!
    : - (((

    Anyone???

See enclosed photos to show you what I've done.
    And thanks to Pamodnar!!!

    Hope all helps with answers.

    Thank you.

I have probably mentioned this - upon installation ATi/AMD driver always starts with the smallest resolution, 800x600, just set it to 1024x768 and you'll be fine.
I remember from my 14" monitor (Philips), it supported 1024x768 and I ran that all the time I had it way back when.
One more thing you could do would be to install a driver (inf update) for your monitor (color profile with list of resolutions and refresh rates it supports) to improve visibility.

CRT monitors do not have a native resolution like LCD ones. It depends on the KHz your monitor supports for horizontal sync. Typical 14" CRTs can run 1024x768 with 75Hz vertical refresh rate (displayed on the type label). Higher resolutions would require to lower the VSync rate to 60Hz (flickers) or even 30i (interlaced, looks ugly).
Usually the driver makes resolutions your monitor does not support unavailable, however, that might not work right in your case. So, please do not select the high resolutions, it might damage the monitor.

    Hi guys,

Thank you, but IF I were to share this to my 40 years old nephew he would
tell me that you guys are all wrong.

When we installed the video card replacement, started up the computer.
The desktop was FULL SCREEN on the 14 inch monitor.

I should've looked up on the screen resolution to know what screen resolution
was. BEFORE I discovered the screen turned into 800 x 600 AFTER I
RESTART the computer. The Desktop icons were
messed up. And BEFORE you told me to UPDATE the Catalyst AMD.

Now I'm dealing with almost solve. NOT 100 % yet!!!

AFTER installing the NEW version of Catalyst AMD 14.4 which you suggested,
it does correct the Desktop icons in place, BUT the Desktop screen is 800 x 600
and still with black bars on side by side. Or in other words, on each side on
the 14 inch monitor. So the Desktop image is with my icons in place is
SMALLER on a 800 x 600 with black bars on each side.

So guys, again when we replaced the video card, the Desktop screen image
was in FULL SCREEN. Until I restarted the computer to see would the FULL
SCREEN DESKTOP be the same. I did NOT when it turned into 800 x 600.

I believe the FULL SCREEN Desktop image was higher than 1024 x 768.

I'm very disappointed with your outcome since that you're NOT seeing my
    14 inch monitor looks like.

Enclosed photos from my iPad of my 14 inch monitor after installing
    the UPDATE Catalyst AMD 14.4.

I also added RED DOTS on each side of the 800 x 600.
To show you that there's more room on side by side.

I believe my Desktop image was full screen on the 14 inch monitor
    that was higher than 1024 x 768

I'm gonna have to try out see which screen resolution that make
the full screen. But I'm NOT going to play around with the monitor
by adjusting the screen to make it larger by manually.

    It was right from before.

Thank you for all your help, but disappointed with your outcome.

    See you later.

    Thanks..

    See my photo.

The only resolutions I'd try above 800x600 are 1024x768 and 1280x1024. The last one being already borderline for an old 14" CRT. As for the black shoulders, these depend not only on the resolution, but also the refresh rate (as both directly influence the operation of the line transformer).

So, the resolution setting you show in the second screen is not enough, you also need to open the "Advanced settings" link, change to the "Monitor" tab, and check which refresh rates are available, usually that's at least 60Hz and 75Hz.

    graphics_settings_1.png graphics_settings_2.png

Test them with the different resolutions (don't go above 85Hz for that monitor), maybe you'll find the one that correspondents to your previous correct setting.

    Hi Everyone,

HOLD IT!!! HOLD ON!!! HOLD ON FOR A MOMENT!!!!

    NEW PROBLEM!!!

    PLEASE HELP????

I always asked myself "Why it doesn't change whenever I restart the computer??"

It changed when I "START-UP" or "Boots up" the computer
    in the morning!!!!

Remember I posted a screenshot of my " Screen resolution"
to change the Monitor refresh rate????

And I was able to change it or set it to "70 MHz", remember???

NOW this morning when I start up my computer or boots up
( which other you want to call it ) all the sudden it changed!!!

It's FULL SCREEN side by side and at the top.

But when I go to check my Monitor refresh rate.......

    It's 75 MHz!!!!!!!

NO!!! I do NOT want 75!!!

    Bad for my eyes!!!

Either Windows or the new AMD tool changed to affect!!
And it DETECTED the model of my 14 inch monitor!!!

There's NO 70 MHz option listed!!!! NO 70 MHz for me to
    go back!!!

    What do you think???

See enclosed screenshots from my Windows 7 computer Desktop displays.

Why the computer doesn't take affect until I shut-down and it
does take affect when I starts up the computer in the morning???
After 8 or 10 hours later.

Can you help me to lower the refresh rate???

    I had it at 70.

    Hope all helps with answers.

    Hi guys again,

    Another NEW problem, again....

OMG. I haven't done anything yet. Until this morning when I start up
the computer. The picture on the monitor has CHANGED skewed
    and mis-shape AGAIN!!!

NOW its shows 70 MHz and it does NOT list my 14 nch
    DELL monitor model identity.

I showed screenshot on the other day.

And the display is back that says....

"Display Device on Mobile PC Display"

It showed the DELL monitor model yesterday morning.
    NOW it's NOT.

It shows those black bar on each side of the screen.
    It's NOT 800 X 600 It's still 1024 x 768 anyway.

What should I do with this AMD 14.4 that cannot make up its mind
whenever I starts up the computer before the next morning????

Restart won't help. ONLY when I shutdown and starts up the
computer, then the monitor skew changes!!!!

    HELP????

    Right NOW....

    -- 70 MHz
-- "Display Device on Mobile PC Device"
    -- NO Monitor identity display.
--Small black bar on each side of the screen
It was FULL screen yesterday with skewed changes.

It could change again on the next morning when
    I starts up the computer!!!

    HELP???

Looks like your replacement graphics card is faulty; I had numerous other Radeons running happily on Catalyst 14.4 with no resolution problems (HD 5770, HD6950, HD7850, HD7950, HD7970, R9 280X) and on Windows "7" too, so really looks like the card is defective.
No problem with your monitor. The driver or Windows should not be loosing the connection to the graphics card like so. Maybe check Device Manager (in Control Panel) whether it has any exclamation marks on graphics card listing.

It sounds like a problem with the DDC (Display Data Channel), but, no idea how to troubleshoot that. Graphics card defect, defect in the cable or plug or socket (maybe a VGA socket pin bent or damaged?), or even a driver issue, all possible.
