    Thanks. Are the steps in that thread still possible if I don't have the original OS installed on the laptop anymore?

    Check this out,if your laptop is able to run win8,just look on the internet and you will find an appropriate win8 iso to install on your laptop,if you have trouble,pm me ;)

    My question is Windows 8 OEM did not have a COA on it. so if he had a KEY -listed on it. probably a Generic upgrade.
    Windows 8 and genuine MS Download or several found on MDL sinply insert the media and Boot and go... it will install and Activate automatically.
    any way all 3 of my OEM Windows 8 works that way.....

    It also depends on the type of ISO.
    win8.1 unfortunately does not like to install using win8.0 oem keys.
    It allows them post-install, but won't auto-import them during install like win8.0 setup.
