Well good for you. The fact is that there are several models of these HP laptops that have this problem. The issue is posted on both the MS forums and the HP forums.
Try making the bootable USB or burn a DVD first and try the clean install before settling for disabling sleep functions At least that way you will know for sure
Change it in your power options to "do nothing". I always found it annoying anyway that it would sleep with the screen down.
ok i made a bootable USB but it shows the same install setup as before wouldnt that drain the battery?
Are you actually booting from your device as pisthai said it should give you the same options as the DVD when you select custom installl it should give you the drive options to install on
Not if it's plugged in. If you are running off the battery, and if you want to close the screen, power off the PC. Saves even more power that way.
are you getting the option of "Upgrade or Custom " install if you select custom it has to give you the option of which drive to install on and drive options
i downloaded "Windows 8 RTM English, 64-bit (x64)..." and put it on my USB using Windows7-USB-DVD-tool but its not booting. i opened the folder and clicked "setup" but it still showed the same setup as before....no custom install
you have to interrupt your boot sequence and tell you laptop to boot from your usb device when you turn on your pc it will give a option of entering setup select it then find you boot order settings and select your usb device as first boot device exit setup as laptop reboots it should give a option of "press any key to boot from DVD or USB device Your laptop must boot from the USB device then it will enter windows setup
Ok i finally got to the custom insall page. It says "where do you want to install windows" and shows a list of drives. What should i do now?
first make sure you backed up all your important info that could be on your system drive (normally C) By selecting the format option from the drive options at the bottom right of that window you Will Permanently Delete everything that is on that partition After format simply select install and windows will install Please be sure you have a backup I do not want to be responsible for you loosing all your data
