That is not always the case a lot of PC's have a system partition for windows And a separate partition for there data normally the data partition will be much bigger than the system partition In 99% of cases the "C" drive is the system partition
You're right about C usually being the main drive but with an o/s installed already it's not likely that the system partition won't have the most data on it! It's a smart idea to backup data but it will be in windows old folder as well!
You will need to reinstall driver etc.. activate windows Hope it goes well There is always help here at MDL if you need it
TacoChuck: You probably shouldn't have said that out loud (did you?), now I'm sure it will happen tomorrow
Just to clarify, i've lost files and data but not during a format I'm backed up and everything important is stored elsewhere!
I lost once data from the ProgramData Folder! Since I backup those whole folder once a week or before re-installing etc. as well as the User folder with all content. Every time I was upgrading from an older to an newer OS, data from that ProgramData folder were missing after finishing and I had to copy them back from my backup. Nice to see that you finally admit that you have loss data!
Open desktop, open windows explorer, right click in Computer, click Manage and click Device Manager, look for anything marked yellow or red and check what happen! IOnstall the required drivers and reboot computer!
I could have predicted that. As I said before this is a known problem with certain HP laptop models. You can verify this at the HP and the MS support forums. Use the workaround that I mentioned.
At lest solodolo knows for sure now that's it's HP problem not something he had done If there's nothing marked in yellow or red then all your devices are installed correctly Sorry to here that the problem is still there at least you have a clean install now which is much better than a upgrade in long run And you learnt little more along the way
AS Javy Originally said properly your only option now is to disable sleep and standby and yes this will use more battery power unfortunatly
Clarification was only because it was obvious you took my comment to mean something else, we were talking about formatting a pc, not system failure or operator mistake!
do you think its possible for me a download windows 8 drivers that are used for a different HP laptop?
Depends on compatible hardware If HP are not supporting your model in Windows 8 then I would think not. Best thing would be to Google it see what you come up with.
