I'm running W7 Pro. At the moment I have two ways to access the internet. A landline ADSL connection from Orange.fr and a satellite connection from Nordnet. The Orange service is unreliable and getting worse all the time because they are no longer maintaining the old copper lines. So to try to get a better system in place I have the Nordnet sat dish installed and activated. It is not living up to claims of high speed but at least it should keep running when the local farmers knock over the last Orange landline. Now down to the question............ Is there any way to have a choice which wifi modem I can connect to? At the moment the PC only connects to the Orange modem. To use the Nordnet one I have to unplug the Orange one (from the mains power) and then the PC finds the Nordnet modem. I would like to have the choice. Like when a mobile phone scans and shows a list of available networks. Is this possible with a W7 PC? Judging by the lack of responses I guess not.
This is not a Windows 7 specific question. This is a wi-fi specific question. The answer is the same regardless of what operating system you're using.
Well, OK, did not see that. Now, if both modems (which are most probably full-blown routers, actually) provide their own WiFi network (own SSID), one possible option is to uncheck "Connect automatically" for every WiFi connection, and just connect manually to the desired WiFi after boot.
Sorry peeps. I didn't want to cause any trouble. I'll find another forum for this question. Consider the topid closed.
While the WiFi basics are indeed the same in all Windows OS, the actual handling is very different in Win7. So, I don't see why the topic would be wrong, here. You don't.
I love pictures @Aardvarkly - like Carlos & co wrote, untick "Connect automatically..." and you're good I guess this is how your ADSL modem looks like And how your NordNet config looks like
One final comment. I could not get things to work like you suggest so I decided to dump the Nordnet satellite system. I never did get the landline or mobile phone to work via the satellite as promised and there was absolutely no tech help available from them in English. Be warned. It is like pulling teeth without anaesthetic to get them to end the contract before the one year renewal date. In the end I was about €100 down on the deal but glad to be free of the hassle.
