Not really..it can just be a self activating test copy that is time bombed like all the rest..they are not giving out the GA code two weeks early to insiders. And even when you do get the final code if you get it as an insider it will be time bombed..they said that last week.
If you read what that MS guy on PCBeta said what MS plans is even easier. They are going to upload the final code to the Store on the 27th and I would guess that means anybody who wants it can just go get it and if you want to wait it will eventually be pushed out to you. I think where all the confusion is coming in now is that MS has totally changed how they will do things with 10 and haven't bothered to tell anyone. You get bits and pieces from Aul but he generally creates more questions then he answers with his "blog". For that reason everybody still thinks things should happen a certain way and because they aren't there is total chaos.
prerelease keys will no longer activate builds. I wonder what would happen if I upgrade activated Win 7 to 10 with an ISO install. Would the resulting Win 10 be activated and able to opt out of insider after RTM?
That's the question everybody wants to know. You can always opt-out but can you do a clean install without an upgrade first and if you clean install or upgrade with insiders code it will be time bombed.
Yeah, the information available is a a little confusing. I was planning on upgrading an activated Win 7 laptop with the newest Win 10 preview build since it's stable and fully functional, but now I don't know what would happen to the activation. I guess I just have to wait till the 29th.
I have an activated Windows 7 (OEM licence from side of an bust PC from the skip i phone activated) in VMWare my plan is to use the Windows 10 RTM iso to upgrade this and see if its still activated first. If it is activated after install i then know its safe to upgrade my main operating system on the PC to windows 10. If its unactivated after install then i know to wait to get it from Windows Update on 29th. Fairly confident it will update via the Windows 10 ISO and stay activated though. Its a shame 10176 didn't leak in pro as we could have tested that and found out also maybe. If you think about it they are not going to require everyone to use the Windows Update to upgrade first, that means if you have multiple machines, then multiple downloads. Its just not efficient. The better, faster and cheaper way (for business) would be an ISO to just upgrade the installs. It saves all those downloads of the same thing.
I am not sure.
