had windows 7, from dell OEM activation, upgraded to 10. pulled the CD key out of 10, (been up for ~8 months) installed a new motherboard this weekend, along with a re-install of the OS. bios matches previous SLIC2.1, but no go on the Activation of the new install. Any help is appreciated.
Slic2.1 keys won't work, they are afaik oem:slp keys, only oem: non slp keys will work. You have to get a new HWID for the new configuration or use an appropiate win 7 key (on sticker).
OR... since it was a legitimate and legal upgrade and activation he could just pick up the phone and dial MS and give them the challenge code and enter the response code and get it reactivated.
Microsoft activation phone number (888) 571-2048, Call them and beg, tell them you just lost your leg, your wife just had a baby, and your dog just died, lol
...Someone could say or explain, why activations made by telephone can not be visualized the key of instalation by softwear like pkey? i see this... bbbbb bbbbb bbbb...
You need to do the same process. Install 7 then upgrade. Or, install 7, generate new genuineticket then clean install 10. Your new motherboard has a new hwid so it's different. ie, you network controller has a different mac address...
Flipp3r was right -- using the SAME key, I reinstalled win7, did the win10 upgrade. used the tool to grab the win10 key. then wiped it all, and did a fresh install of win10, and it activated perfectly. MS has a HW ID for each machine using a specific key -- if your HW id isn't in their system, attached to the key -- it won't activate.
@kuroda What OS are you on, I believe for pkey you have to start with Win 7, if you have Win 10- does Belarc advisor may tell you your key
...Lobo11...i install here the program, but i can not see the key yet...i dont know what happen... only activations made by telephone occurs this...but thank you by your assist ^^... O.S Windows 10 Professional 10586.104
It's should be on their somewhere at the bottom, I don't have it now, But will install it real quick and see if it does, are you on Win 10?
