So I'm buying a new PC and I'm wondering what the experience has been with any Insiders who have moved their license over to a new PC. What did you do to get it moved...or could you? thanks all!
Afaik and experienced, Insiders have to use the HWID to be activated (or any other legitimate kind of activation ((oem)key, oemm "bioskey", etcetc...).
That was my understanding as well but what exactly does that mean in real life? Can the "free" license be transferred to a new PC (with obviously different hardware)?
You could try sticking the hard drive with the licensed Win 10 on it into the new machine and then calling support and claim you replaced the motherboard. If they reactivate it you will have a HWID for the new machine and can clean install at will.
So the actual answer is that Windows 10 Home=ClientCore, not Pro. Just an FYI to anyone looking to know.
Right person wrong thread? heh oh Just adding info, took my mind a minute to grasp that. Yeah doesn't matter Home or Pro moving to another is the same deal. You got until the 29th of July to get it free on any PC. Maybe consider doing an upgrade again for the new hardware / system.
That's what I was thinking! I've always had PRO so never did an upgrade. Now that I'm running 14342 Home, do I just choose the Upgrade option in Settings and move up to PRO and it will activate? Not sure how this works. thanks!
am insider, i had 10 home upgraded from 8.1 core, put in 10 pro disc and upgraded,am activated as an insider, just staying as an insider with pro for as long as i can,can always go back to legitimate 10 home then upgrade to pro if i ever sign out of insiders in the future.
