Was thinking on upgrading my laptop OS to Windows 8 Dev Preview.. but if the beta is signed of soon then I might wonder if it would be better to wait for some weeks instead of installing it now... but probably I want to use Windows 8 so installing dev preview as main OS soon.
Wait. Does this mean there won't be a metro overhaul of Aero? The current theme just doesn't look good compared to the start screen. Even Aero Lite is kind of ugly and slightly Windows 95-looking. I'm hoping that the themes and art assets just haven't been added to the winmain branch yet. But it doesn't seem very likely to happen this close to beta.
Dev Preview is quite unstable on some systems, I abandoned it here. The beta is not due publicly for another 2 months. They removed the rounded edges and make it flat and square.
From what we've already seen, Aero hasn't received a major overhaul, just a few improvements and enhancements. Like what TechDudeGeorge said, the corners and aero have been tweaked, as well as the window controls.
Runs good on this laptop, did it before but took it on dualboot to keep all the main programs like Photoshop, VS2010 and Expression web for developing on the W7. But seems to work good on the W8 too but Photoshop is making me doubt a bit. But its mostly a question to get photoshop working and if it was worth doing now the change if a beta or new build leaks soon.
If it makes you sick, then use iTunes or some other player. I don't have a problem with WMP. Why do you?
The only reason I haven't installed it as my main OS (I've done the dual-boot, and, except for hyperniche apps and two games - everything I run in 7 runs as well in WDP as in 7, if not better in WDP) is the lack of upgrade path between builds. A post I made (elsewhere) actually confirmed a feeling that I had (but a lot of us have completely missed) concerning the makeup of Immersive - while Immersive *looks* radically different because of the lack of Start menu, when it comes down to brass tacks, there's nothing really missing otherwise, operationally speaking. What traditional applications don't work in the DP (with Immersive active) that work just fine in 7, with or without SP1? Except for hyperniche applications or utilities with specific OS-isms (the same applications that have issues with the Compatibility Settings feature in earlier versions of Windows) everything *just works*. Then it hit me - Immersive is a *superset* of the UI as we have known it since Vista - not a subset. The Start menu being missing is, from a code point of view, rather irrelevant (name a single application that depends on the Start menu). Yet the Start menu's detractors are acting like Bugs Bunny fans do whenever Yosemite Sam draws down on him. There's greater difference between KDE4 and KDE3 than between Immersive and Aero - heck, there's more difference between GNOME-Shell3 and the full GNOME 3 - yet the differences in opinion between Immersive fans and Immersive detractors is heading for jihadic territory (on the part of the detractors). Have we - as a planet - become *that selfish* about darn near everything?
Well presented, PGHammer. The Win8 detractors should probably find a better way to present their displeasure regarding the Metro UI or shut the H up ... IMO. As I have mentioned, I'll be moving to Win8 and following it's progress here as best as I can. I skipped Vista as it wasn't really good anyway but Win8 is changing everything. Either be on the leading edge or be left behind, haters (you know who you are).
This is from the Building Windows 8 video 1. The charm bar in the newer builds, was also there in so old builds!!??
That charm bar has been present since we first saw it announced. Nothing new. Also @Canouna, has the boot screen changed for the beta builds? It is the beta fish, or does it say Windows Beta with the loading dots? I'm curious.
