That segmentation could have the opposite effect though. If I don't get WP9 I'll probably want to get a new phone sooner than if I do get it. Then I might just as well consider going back to android. If I get WP9 then I'll probably make a more WPfriendly decision for my next phone. Android has a good ecosystem with more apps so it doesn't matter that much, but MS still has some work to do. They need to keep their users using their OS, regardless of the phone being new or old.
I don't see why MS would have higher hardware requirements for WP9. They are clearly targeting both the low end and the high end of the smartphone market, with WP8.1 they even lowered the hardware requirements to enable cheaper Windows Phones. I guess WP9 will have very similar hardware requirements, in theory it could run on any existing device. MS could decide not to upgrade certain devices to WP9, but like Stannieman said, MS should keep their relatively small userbase happy if they ever want to get bigger.
If you count in alleged Win RT and Win Phone merge you can expect some things will be a bit more demanding. I don't know how will 1GHZ dual core CPUs fight with it. Even 1.5 GHZ Snapdragons S4 could have issues running it. However, .NET Native is nerds wet dream so it could help a lot
Wzor known versions of Windows 9 RTM escrows are currently being tested by OEM manufacturers with constant updates. WZOR Writting : ОEMщики выражают готовность предустанавливать на новые ПК предрелизную версию (RTMEscrow) Windows 9 с возможностью постоянного её обновления OEMschiki are willing to be reinstalled on the new PC pre-release versions (RTM Escrow) Windows 9 to constantly update its What do you think ?
I'm pretty sure WZOR'S message got lost in translation, that or he has gone crazy! There are no RTM Escrow builds, period.
WZOR - a story about infamous Windows leaker who has gone bad. In next epizode - WZoR claims Windows 10 is in Beta stage even before Terry Myerson even knew what is happening in MS!
I would expect them to be sending builds to partners to test things, but RTM Escrow? NO WAY IN HELL. Not this early.
Since we're talking about WP right now.. Maybe someone out here has paid NaviFirm+ acc and could help? And talking about WZor's tweet: A proper translation is: "OEMs have expressed their willingness to install pre-release versions (RTM Escrow) of Windows 9 on the new PCs with ability to constantly update it."
Thanks for a proper translation, that makes more sense From a marketing standpoint this is very interesting, the holiday season is a big season for PC sales, Spring not so much. Having PCs with the "brand new Windows 9 OMG" for sale this year would be very interesting, but pre-installing pre-release software? That's risky! Anyway, if the TP gets into OEM hands we can expect a leak soon! And NaviFirm doesn't include Pre-release builds, does it?
Probably not. I'm now running Cyan, but I want to test something and need older firmware - Amber or even older.
expecting first files from our buddies in China which our corresponded member Faikee certainly will celebrate for us, no? .... but there might be considered a "dark" source who doesn't perform his goodies first on MDL called "leaked" on the valued Polish site winclub, who sometimes has nice files to offer as well Let us wait who's first ....
meanwhile I have some doubts on W to accredit himself as the masterleaker, I certainly would like that
I believe you would prefer @leaked(or hopefully, WZor) to leak the en-US, rather than some Chinese guy leaking a Zh-CN? Take it as rumor: the current plan is Vista/7/8/8.1 could upgrade directly to Win9 TP/DP(as I have said earlier), as you know in previous Windows, beta could not upgrade to RC, RC could not upgrade to RTM. But this time, you could upgrade all the way from Vista/7/8/8.1 to win9RTM. As @bdsams had reported, internal testers/OEM's could upgrade from one pre-release build to next thru WU, instead of re-installing every time, I guess, MS would also provide updates of the needed files/hotfixes to public users if they wish to take the one-way trip.
I like the "direct update" approach, rather than fresh install all the time. I would really like the option to do "direct update" or fresh install.
