If someone got the same build from 2 sources with different hashes, all the differences in all files could be compared and every different part could be zeroed. Dunno if it would break everything if every single file is signed after making them unique. Or if the kernel etc is signed after making them unique so it would make it hard to boot with invalid signing.
As far as I remember, WZor was first to announce that "thumb print" thing and since then we're speculating what can it be and how does this thing work. Looking from a practical side, handling all partners different isos doesn't seem a good idea - you need to compile a lot of different .isos, cause all of them would have different SHA's it's harder to verify those isos are untouched and so on. We also know, that vNext will have new activation system, so my guess is, this "thumb print" thing is related to it. Let's say every partner gets unique key for activation, for example via store. M$ know how many PC should be activated with this key, and if this number is exceeded, then it's clear who leaked iso. All in all, this are just my speculations.
