Or ThresHold Though personally I think that MS is just joking around, as the acronym for this would be WTH.
A Neowin commenter also posted these links and screenshot I would post them but theres an annoying block on links so I'll just post this obfuscated URL neowin/news/microsoft-to-launch-windows-insider-program-for-next-version-of-windows#comment-2723313 imgur/4CR6co7.png Screenshot of the Technet page
Microsoft wouldn't, but others may. I usually abbreviate Windows to "Win", but I see people just using "W" from time to time (like W7 or W8)
Yea, but we're not talking about what people pet name the OS, we're talking about the next official name of Windows
Imagine every user got its own special build of ntoskrnl.exe embedded in that ISO (or WIM) which checks for a hardware hash (hard-coded in the executable) or other unique system parameter to match. And maybe not just the kernel but a bunch of other files. An even worse scenario: The WIM file you get is encrypted, and the key is, for example, the MAC address of your WiFi/network adapter. That would be evil in WimBoot scenarios. The boot routine couldn't decrypt that WIM on another PC unless you tampered with its MAC. Of course you could repack that WIM once it's decrypted, but what if the bootloader requires an encrypted WIM, and encrypting WIM files is not possible with DISM or something but only by Microsoft (they own the private key)?
The plan is the Windows Technical Preview will be released to the public after the press event on 30th September in San Francisco. We are just two days away and the download link is almost up for people to download it. My fear is that link is going to be overcrowded on the release date. Something needs to be down to provide alternate download. However, I can be patient to evaluate the product whenever it is possible for me to do so.
looking over the preview, a link goes to winpreview2014 [h=2]"Get support[/h]Find solutions to common issues related to setup and installation, or get help with a specific problem. (url removed because of not enough posts.)" looks like winpreview 2014 might be the real name currently no threads .
I wouldn't be concerned so much about that "Windows TH" header. Even if it's legit, it doesn't mean it will be final name for the thing. It's been like that in the Longhorn days when everything was called "Longhorn Developer Center" on MSDN, Longhorn XYZ... and so on. ... Windows TH... Windows To Hell?
Gonna be really cool when they unveil the new name Tuesday and we all see iOS 9 "i" being the ninth letter of the alphabet. ETA: I don't usually delve into the future and make predictions, but my old, creaky, arthritic, no-sex getting, ice cream loving, bones are telling me we'll be playing with the Tech Preview by Tuesday evening....just saying...read signature before commenting. Thank you for your support.
MJF and PT have been saying early October (Wed or later), so no one should hold their breath for Tue. Regardless of the day, I just hope that MS supports an upgrade that carries over program settings, because there's no way that I'm doing a clean install for it (and then again in the spring).
sure that vista announcement was terrible but the name vista was one of the best camera con vista - room with a view only vista means more that view it's a spectacular view unfortunately...
Something interesting on the preview page: Especially that last one sounds like the new in-place build upgrades. And it looks like the reports on regularly getting new preview builds are correct too:
Going to take a wild guess and say they're guide lines to show how much text could be behind that guy, to thusly determine the name of the next Windows.
