Or... just place the link inside this zip View attachment Windows Update.zip into %localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows\WinX\Group3 (or any other group, even Group0 Group4 etc works)
FaiKee is right when he says Threshold is being developed in the 9600.xxxxx build range, but that doesn't mean Threshold won't be called Windows 9. Do keep in mind that Threshold was always intended as being an update for Windows 8.1, but with Windows 8 as a brand tanking so hard, I believe changes are being made to make Threshold a more broad release. Hence the rumors about Threshold being free for Windows 7 users. Much like Windows 8.1, Microsoft will release Threshold as if it was a brand new operating system, and you could technically call it that considering all the UX changes that are coming. For the record, I'm still yet to hear about anything after Threshold. WZ is correct in saying there will be no more updates after Update 2 for Windows 8.1, the next big thing is Threshold. Admittedly, the info I'm relaying here is a little old. Meaning Threshold could have easily jumped over to the 97xx development builds. But from what was a definite thing a while ago, Threshold was being developed in the 9600.xxxxx range. FaiKee claims 97xx is something after Threshold? It's definitely possible.
Very interesting! We know the 97xx builds exist, so I figured that would be where Threshold development was happening, also because it's a major update, like Blue was for W8. If Threshold is indeed 9600.xxxxx it will most likely be delivered through Windows Update! (Unless MS drastically changed their versioning)
It's all up in the air at this point, as I said this is old information. Threshold could have jumped to 97xx, we just don't know. I would hope that Threshold did jump to 97xx, considering it will be a large release for both desktop and tablets users. We're just going to have to see.
I wish entering 'Safe mode' with the F8 at booting as in Windows 7 is returned to coming Windows 8.1(the booting time is too minute to use the F8 key) update.
Thank you. I am quite aware of that command. It becomes a problem in a situation when your system crashed and you don't have the opportunity to issue commands at the command prompt.
You could run that from a windows setup dvd as well, but you have to specify the bcd store and mount the boot partition so that cmd prompt has access (shift-f10 during setup): Code: diskpart select disk 0 select partition 2 assign list volume exit bcdboot /store e:\efi\microsoft\boot\bcd /set {default} bootmenupolicy legacy obviously change the e: to whatever the letter it assigns to the system partition and use a different disk number if your system disk is not listed first in winpe.
I have read somewhere about it but couldn't test it because I am on multi-boot: When in win8/8.1, press shift key all the way while choose power options->restart, then it will reboot to the advanced boot menu(the win8 graphical thing).
yes, open your menu and then hold shift before clicking restart, either at charms bar or the menu from right click start button. It does not work with alt+F4 menu though. btw, if holding shift down the whole time, you cannot open the charms bar
I dont think I will go for Windows 9. I have run the Test Windows 9 and dont like it very much. Have not downloaded the last few builds. I like Windows 8 and the update to 8.1 but not 9
That is very correct. I am addressing it from a non-DVD setup approach. However, thank you for the code.
Yes, it is possible on a multi-boot system because you are provided a handful time enough to make a choice between both operating systems in your computer. A single-boot system is the other way round.
I kind-of wish they would... It would be risky, and I don't think the customer-base is there yet; but, I think it could work if they somehow got a good advertising campaign and more phone support. The customers are still stuck in the apple vs samsung mindset, but with Steve Jobs gone, MS really could make a strong play for the app market. I wish they would also introduce higher octane apps like AAA games for app store or something revolutionary. Right now they just basically have a lot of time wasters, but they really could do a lot more with the newer app stuff if they wanted to. It would have to be a separate thing though if they don't go for the desktop gaming market with apps. If they're just going to stick with small time-wasters, they're better-off not bothering even trying to make an app version of windows for desk/laptops.
Main problem is .... They are taking all the "Metro" stuff as Mobile/Touch friendly. Why there isn't any WinRT app that requires Keyboard+Mouse to work ..Why there isn't any WinRT app that actually uses real power of x86 chips... Microsoft must take WinRT seriously, otherwise .... we all know what will happen.
I'm tired of reading all posts here. There is no build of windows 9/Update 2, and you talking to the air.
