We shouldn't forget, that not only look, but also functionality matters too. Some of these concepts are real waste of space and they don't solve problems keyboard & mouse users now experience while using Metro UI. Yes, these concepts looks very nice, but in my opinion, current design of Windows Explorer is more mouse users friendly. Although, a design like this, could be a perfect choice for touch devices.
Yep, vol clients (governments, big corps) are MS's bread and butter, and these people doesn't care about aesthetics. The reason why MS added start menu and windowed apps was because they made a lot of sales talk with the 20+% of XP users(most if not all of these users are vol clients), what they wanted is start menu and multi-tasking, that's it ....... and MS didn't want a single one of them to turn to Apple, Linux, etc.
Let's really talk about the Windows 9 'threshold' from our expectations. Which I hope are not going to be dashed against the wall at the end. Do we really think Microsoft is going to give us a WOW operating system come 2015? What I am assuming to come from Windows 9 development is not going to be so much different from Windows 8.1 'blue'. Apart from the kernel and other demands from users, like replacing back the start button and ability to use the apps at the desktop environment, etc. I am not expecting much as a person who sees this as supposedly the next in line to make a difference.
new here i just wanted to say i have been watching this thread grow and enjoy every second of even if half of the images where fake so far but my hope is that we get a choice between full metro and the start menu i like metro very much i use it to have all my steam games pinned in one place and custom titles as well so as long as we users have the choice then i will update to 9 but if not windows 8.1 update # will remain my home
Didn't see this posted anywhere, apologies if someone did. httpx://wwx.theinquirer.net/inquirer/news/2356420/the-last-microsoft-windows-81-update-is-due-on-12-august Microsoft's final Windows 8.1 update is due on 12 August- The Inquirer "MICROSOFT WILL RELEASE the second and final update for Windows 8.1 as part of Patch Tuesday in August, rumours have claimed. Russian website PCportal.org.ru claims the update will be available from 12 August. It is expected to be the last major update to Windows 8.x as Microsoft prepares to churn out yet another version of the same old hairball operating system, filing Windows 8 next to Windows Vista in its catalog of marketing disasters. It is unlikely that Update 2 (U2) will herald the return of the Start Menu, as Microsoft will want to save that, as a most requested feature, for Windows 9, due next spring, as a statement of intent that the mistakes of the past have been remedied."
If for the reason of compatibility MS build is going to rely on 2^14 kernel then there is even a better reason to use old kernel that is compatible with past programs. One thing is that modern applications might also find it difficult to run smoothly on these Kernels. There is likely a need for Microsoft to create a new kernel that is compatible with old and modern apps. The 16384 might not be too good for that looking at the evolution of modern applications.
