It is x64 Installing right now. On the install start screen it says Windows 8.1. So I am assuming it is 8.1 update 2. Bummer.
So much secrecy... MS should just adopt open development and be up front about the future. Maybe expand their shared source program too.
Still installing. Going to take awhile. Installing it on a 1.8Gig duel core with 1Gig ram and 150gig IDE harddrive. Not the best system to test it on. This used to be my Windows 8 activation server that I used to run so people could activate through KMS.
All the NDAs, MSDN tiers, and countless EULAs seem like wasteful bureaucracy. BSD, GPL, MIT, etc are very simple, don't insult your intelligence, and attempt respect your rights.
I'm also curious to test new beta builds so please share the ISO maddog0266 I wonder why it's only 3.1 gigs? x64 image should be ~500 megs bigger. Thank you
Back in the Server 2000 days they were going around handing out betas as promotional material. I know because I got one at the company I was working at, and I thought it was a very good way to promote their upcoming product. I don't think their preview versions work as well. Nobody really wants the preview versions because the full versions are usually already out. Plus, if they opened up the beta to more people we could fix a lot of the problems that people seem to complain about right after the release. Just in the recent 8.1 release they had that reboot black-screen issue, mouse lag issues, and a few more things that people would have noticed if there weren't a NDA. Plus, when win7 came out, adoption wasn't very strong, either. It's only because of word-of-mouth that people started gravitating over from XP. If there weren't issues when win8 came out, they could have had better word-of-mouth and more people would have adopted it. So they're kinda shooting themselves in the foot by doing these closed betas like this. Who knows? Maybe they always figure that someone is going to leak it anyway. Anyhow thx for the infos md266
