Oh for God's sake, please don't turn this into another pointless discussion! Like Zac said, let's get back to Threshold.
LOL, we are actually helping zac to counter-push so he doesn't need to bother about his old login..... btw, Neowin forums allows you to change display name.
This is true, however since MDL didn't have the option in the User CP, I only assumed it wasn't allowed.
Cortana has graduated from engineering builds: neowin(.)net/news/windows-threshold-cortana-makes-a-step-forward
I've heard some rumors that the most expensive Windows 9 edition will allow completely disable ModernUI. Is it right? Well I was wondering to format or not to format, to install 7 or wait to 12 of August for updated Win 8.1. I decided to stay with win7. Nothing new if I say I don't need ModernUI at all on my desktop. It doesn't provide any better functionality, it's rather annoying and looks like coloring book for little children. Since Win95 GUI ideas didn't change much. Desktop icons, taskbar, start button, time etc. Those things were improved in all Windows up to 7. With windows 8+ MS tries to discover a wheel once again. I'm gonna wait what Win9 will show
It's not about more/less expensive, it's all about hardware. The 'desktop/laptop' edition will have a desktop with a start menu and windowed ModernUI apps, the 'full tablet' version will have both desktop and ModernUI and the RT edition will have ModernUI only. When buying a new PC/Tablet it all depends on what the OEM chooses to put on it. I have no idea if you can actually choose between these different editions when you install Windows Threshold yourself, but there will certainly be a way to turn ModernUI 'off'.
he's just trying to start problems like he does with most of his posts. Maybe if we ignore him he'll go away...or not. -
@BAV0 what I have heard is that only biz versions like enterprise/VL should have these features but this is to be taken with usual amount of salt (cannot give the source atm)
What do you think about that App Folders idea for Win 9? bit.ly / 1oq1Tob Could make sense, imo .. I would actually use it. Interactive tiles are overdue!
What I said in Neowin was there is a probability that WinThreshold(Win8.2) could be abandoned, because MS (like indicated in their blog about Aug Update) would decide to release the new win8.1 features in patch Tue, I believe MS could make decision soon, but not now. Anyway, for guys who believes WinThreshold is Win9, just ignore what I said, I am tired of debating. I believe he had said some time ago in a post that "this is my last post in MDL", but I think his shrink probably advised him to keep on to avoid conditions going worse - we have seen too much of a guy carrying some fire-arms and shoot blindly in a mall. If you mean the "Apps Folder" in wp8.1, AFAIK, it won't come to windows client. btw, I have heard that Cortana wouldn't make it to the (1st) Win9 Preview in next Spring, but that's last month, things might change.
Hello all, This is my first post on this forum and before i'll ask my question i want to thank you all for your great work. Since we are just a day before the Update 2 for Windows 8.1 will be released, i would like to ask if there is any need to turn off my antivirus (Norton AntiVirus) while downloading (from what i've read here, the update will be available through WU) and installing the updates. Thank you!
No need to do anything. It will be installed automatically, If you never changed "Windows Update Options".
