Windows 8.1 Pro RTM with WMC Key activated I was quite busy the whole week and had just a bit of time at an customers place so I started to install Windows 8.1 Pro RTM on my laptop an 1½ year old Acer Aspire 4752G All went well. I used an new MS account, not my old for the Laptop. Fir installation I was use the Installation Pro Key. After install was done, I was going to the System Screen and checked Activate Windows. I was change the Product Key to an Retail Key I used on an other computer before which were bought last year from MS. The activation just went ahead and was done in no time. In System Screen I then checked to install features and were key in the WMC Key. 2 Restarts and all done now. Now I'm just back in office and will start to customize Windows for my personal use and ad all needed apps to it first. Let see how it will go! I wasn't try to use to upgrade because I was using the Preview on Laptop for some weeks already, just replaced the HDD with an other. Maybe I'll try to upgrade the "old" HDD later after everything is working. Till now I'm happy that all went well.
Now I need to install some driver, special the display drivers! I realized that now I get a watermark : Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center Build 9600! That didn't bother me at all! There 3 Updates on downloading now and it stucks at 84% of the total of 302.6 MB for about 5min and now is starting to installing those updates. 1 Update was installed while 2 was failing and I had click to try again. Now downloading 289.8 MB!
Seems to be that after installing the WMC, windows is back in Notification Mode. Think I've to phone to MS! And that's also why those Watermark was appearing!!
i tried many times with many methods but its not working...may be its my bad luck ....by the way, i m not trying to activating windows....i m waiting for a activator...
Wooooot...what updates. Tested Pro and ProWMC here, only update offered are definitions for Defender .
Only updates today for me were mostly hardware related, graphics driver, Microsoft wireless mouse, keyboard , plus defender. 8.1MC is running pretty good so far. Off topic...has anyone had any luck getting office 2013 activated?
To answer your question: seems to be hardware related! After the Media Center was installed I was getting problems even to change the Screen, So haven't read what they are! Sorry! Is on reinstalling Windows now!
Installation finish abd used the same Key as at first install: Activated! Now NO Media Center!! Now only 2 Updates: Windows Defender Definition and nVidia Driver! The 3. Update as in first install didn't show up (yet)!
Update Problem with Driver: nVidia! Thye 3. start for to update the nVidia Display Driver! And again failed! Code 80246002 Windows Update run into a problem! The graphic adapter is an nVidia GeForce 610M with 1GB dedicated Memory. Think I'll download the driver from Guru3D and check that one. Last try from MS is running now. If don't works, I go to Guru3D!
Everything working fine here. Activated my Windows 8.1 RTM Pro (legal) retail key over the internet fine and WMC serial over the phone (I've used up all the activations on the WMC serial apparently). Only updates I've had so far are for Windows Defender. However, I'm stuck with the, "Secure boot isn't configured correctly" watermark on the desktop until I get a newer video card that has a GOP BIOS.
Afaik that Watermark appears when system is installed in UEFI mode with secure boot disabled. Not shure what you mean regarding graphics card.
Guys a small query, my laptop came with windows 8 preinstalled , license type is windows 8 single edition, will i be able to upgrade to windows 8.1 and retain the same license?

Think ill just reformat and install 8.1 Fresh without the WMC key, and use my Legit Pro key! WMC seems a little confusing at the moment and tbh, i dont even use wmc!
Afaik so far no such leak available, only that OEM Frankenbuild with three indices and some serious problems .
