I've been fighting with this since Win8 preview. All of me ext-Drives sleep more than me. it is an Annoyance
Is it not possible to mount the install.wim, insert the gVLK key for pro, unmount the install.wim. Rebuild the install.wim with index1 only to give you a PRO VL disc without the core version. Then make an EI.cfg which you place in the sources folder. Code: [EditionID] Professional [Channel] Volume [VL] 1 And finally rebuild the .ISO. Wouldn't that give you a 100 % VL version of PRO or am I wrong?
Why when you change Microsoft account to local account it not changes in users folder and command prompt ?
Seems working like a charm in real mode. This is why i don't like VMs besides performance... just had to install nvidia driver 306.97 for this geforce card, 320.xx are just garbage and 314.22's good for geforce 600s about hard drives sleeping, it could be the controller this asmedia controller makes the hard drive sleep on windows 7, 8 and 8.1 with or without the manufacturer drivers. haven't tested the metro stuff much except for weather and mail, and compared to android apps it looks like beta stuff, kinda flaky, but ain't metro what I want from 8... I'm more interested in stuff like this simple but safe thing: safe remove of usb devices always working, in windows 7 half the times you get the error about a program using it even after all programs are closed. my two cents on this,
I read on another site about the slidetoshutdown.exe in the system32 folder in Win8.1. Seems like a quick way to shutdown the PC by putting a shortcut on the desktop or taskbar.
It has been known for some time: for win8/8.1, in fast boot mode, "shutdown" is actually "sleep", "restart" is total shutdown.
ugh quoting myself, how bad is that!!? Anyway... I also had to put a boot delay on my system to boot with an old usb2 external drive connected. It would hang the system at post, and the external drive would just sit there and blink. Delaying the boot from bios for 5 seconds took care of that and allowed the external drive to initialize. Thought that might be useful to someone.
ahh you mean a solid state drive. Well all I know is that the hard drives embedded deep inside the laptop so i dont know. If someone could let me know how to turn off fast boot on windows 8.1 id be grateful.
Control panel->power options->choose what power button does->change settings that are not current available -> untick fast start-up
Start copying a lot of files so your harddisk is busy, then drop it a couple of times. If you can still read your drive than it's an ssd, of your drive is broken it was an hdd.
