It will also be sold as a stand alone OS, only free to current Win8 retail users or those who buy win8 or win8 on a machine will get free upgrade.

Ummm how many QFE's are we talking because in its current condition Windows 8.1 is almost entirely broken. I made a list

    -Recycling bin hang
-Critical Licensing / Activation bug for registry
-Critical Licensing bug for license files
    -Desktop themes bug
-Memory anti maleware (uses 200 MB of RAM)
-start screen issue on first search (partial crash)
-Metro search crash with white screen (crashes windows)
-Access violation to the Computer OS with crash
    -Windows CPU core issues

The list goes on some of these are critical as well. I wonder how many MS will fix in a month and these are the ones from the Virtual Machine as PMR didn't give me a full list lol.

I won't split split hairs in this case Windows 8.1 is DOA atm as Windows 8 is more stable then 8.1.

Also Chris123NT there are features missing from the RTM that I saw when I was looking at the licensing files when they were updates. I feel we will see some new Windows RT features on Windows 8.1 on release in October.

hmmm didn't have those issues so far - maybe the VM is your problem :D
better test it on bare metal.

Perhaps the issue is that you have to find the bugs in order to replicate them (dry voice).

    heh

here I can confirm kind of little buggy behaviour on VM but also have no more issues on the real machine

officially yes but you can continue receiving fixes beyond that date by custom made update requests :p

In Store when searching app by the search bar, you don't always find it in the results, like in windows 8.

I've none of your problems on a real PC (did not tested in a VM).

How do I prevent external hard drives from sleeping in windows 8.1? I have disabled it in power options, but it didn't do anything.

Windows 8.1 rtm has one major bug for me which is making me stay permanently on windows 8. Whenever i go to boot up windows 8.1 the computer switches itself off a few seconds after the blue windows logo appears. I also had the same problem with the preview . Theyve had since the preview to fix this bug and still haven't solved it. Im really disappointed unless someone here knows how to fix it?

Is it not possible to mount the install.wim, insert the gVLK key for pro, unmount the install.wim.
Rebuild the install.wim with index1 only to give you a PRO VL disc without the core version. Then make an EI.cfg which you place in the sources folder.

    Code:
    [EditionID]
    Professional

    [Channel]
    Volume

    [VL]
    1

And finally rebuild the .ISO. Wouldn't that give you a 100 % VL version of PRO or am I wrong?

Seems working like a charm in real mode. This is why i don't like VMs besides performance...
just had to install nvidia driver 306.97 for this geforce card, 320.xx are just garbage and 314.22's good for geforce 600s
about hard drives sleeping, it could be the controller this asmedia controller makes the hard drive sleep on windows 7, 8 and 8.1 with or without the manufacturer drivers.

haven't tested the metro stuff much except for weather and mail, and compared to android apps it looks like beta stuff, kinda flaky, but ain't metro what I want from 8... I'm more interested in stuff like this simple but safe thing: safe remove of usb devices always working, in windows 7 half the times you get the error about a program using it even after all programs are closed.

    my two cents on this,

I read on another site about the slidetoshutdown.exe in the system32 folder in Win8.1. Seems like a quick way to shutdown the PC by putting a shortcut on the desktop or taskbar.

Same problem here, you don't happen to use an SSD?

I fixed by disabling fast boot.
