Every one of those things you listed, was your own fault.
MS gives privacy choices on all of those options.
Incompatibilities are because the software makers did not use good Coding Practices.

The file system is much faster than 8.0 and is much closer to 7.
I don't care for the start button either, but I use keyboard shortcuts for a lot of things, so I don't really care.

Abomination? No. People who expect every future OS to be exactly the same as the old one are an Abomination IMO.

For finding them prior to their installation, you'd need to know the following info to form a working id : CompanyName.ProductName.SubProduct.VersionInformation.
    As it seems yes... o_O
Imo it's just easier pinning an app by hand. Unless someone knows how to make a script to catch the addition of new apps and append them to that policy setting or the way it was done on 8.

@Mods : can we now split all the Windows 8.1 stuff into a separate section of the forum ? I know the decision from the beta days was to wait for RTM and I totally respect that, but now that the floodgates are open we should probably redirect all the 8.1 posts to where they belong...

Or maybe because stupid MS didn't release the RTM for them to work with. Expect the issues fixed sometime around December-January...

    Hi,

I wrote on the 28.08.2013 "I think MS put the RTM of Win 8.1 on MSDN and TechNet in a few days. Read the comments on..."

    Now it happens...

Now, let me say something first, before people will throw rocks at me thinking I was wrong with my previous statement: Microsoft does not want the public to be aware of subchannel divisions for a number of security reasons, so they overruled the scheme for to issue those Campus channel stuff WZor leaked, to be the Public. ;)
