He's right actually. All you need to install a driver is the inf and the corresponding resources. You don't need any extra software. Those are unnecessary.
Did you read his whole post? He said the files in my link are without the driver>not true. My link is the latest driver/software for Windows 8.1. But in the end it's all up to you. Install or don't install. I'm only the messenger. Unpack the zip file and update through device manager if you only want the inf updated driver.
what people only need and what they want tend to be different per user. Both of the links from Enigma and Michelle to the packages are valid, depending on what a user wants. Yes you can use driver only, and Yes you can use software plus driver. why fuss over nothing? People should decide or learn on their own with options given, simple as that.
Off the current subject but I just today took a look at the firewall exceptions and allowed programs through the Windows 8.1 firewall. I was a little surprised to see the items covered in a Beta News article... in particular this paragraph: "Better Out-of-Box VPN Client Support: You can cross four vendor VPN application add-ons off the list of programs needed to get onto the corporate network. Microsoft has caked in native support for SonicWall, Juniper, Check Point, and F5 VPN firewall connectivity. You check check out the short spiel on this from the BUILD 2013 event on Windows 8.1." Being the trusting sort that I am and having zero use for those VPNs, I disabled them. Probably a useless thing to do but...
