There's one thing I'm thinking might of caused this. Since these are recovery cds, after the install was over and I was on the desktop the recovery was showing that it was just installing some drivers, then at the end it was saying it was doing the recovery cleanup, at that point I just killed the cleanup thinking it's all that's needed to do this backup, but somehow the key.txt file was not saved, so not sure if that cleanup really needed to complete and most likely the OS needed to reboot. Just doing a system cleanup at the end of the recovery install, I don't see why it would of effected the backup, but possibly it did, so I'll let it all go this time and let you know in a few... THANKS
@DasFox, Thought you wanted to avoid the Acer dvd bloatware? Why dont you just install with a standard rtm? I think you have slic 2.1 in your bios already so you just need to install the acer oem key and cert after that to activate. Once you are activated, you can use the right version of PMR's tool to backup.
What's the latest version? By the way that screen shot is off of the post on the forum, not my version.
It does backup key.txt, you just have to press F5 to refresh your current directory (with pkeyconfig.xrm-ms and tokens.dat) to make it visible
Well I don't recall seeing anywhere about needing to hit F5 to do a refresh. Well visible means it's hidden, or as a protected system file and I keep this on to see these files, so why is F5 going to do something? THANKS
No, its a thing with copying txt files in windows 7...they disappear for a short while (create a folder, put a txt file in there like example.txt, create another example.txt in another directory and overwrite the 1st example.txt, you will notice sometimes it disappears for a second until you press F5)
By the way I'm using 0.0.2.2 Seems odd that the system would need a refresh simply to make a text file visible which has no weight to it, and would not cause the system to take a hit in performance. I could see where moving a DVD ripped off the dvd into the vobs and moving those would cause a lag in explorer, but a text file, hmm, odd...
Never seen this at all in Win7 and I've been using it when it came out as a public beta, never once seen a text file not appear as soon as I've created them. Can you show us an actual reference/url to this from M$?
delete rename move the file away from tokens.dat and pkeyconfig.xrm-ms open with notepad and change whats inside the files. the list of mess ups can continue if you want
