Why they doing this for example posready 2009 version of xp are still supported by microsoft today but getting a up to date browser is becoming an issue why is that ?
Because even the tablet editions are ending support soon and the market for them no longer warrants the development (supply and demand). Further, Firefox which is the last mainstream browser to support Windows XP is focusing on their new browser Firefox Quantum, which cannot support XP since the OS itself does not have required software framework available for support mainstream browser. XP is nearly 17 years old (almost 2 decades) and has been at the end of life since 2014 (4 years ago). You cannot expect it to live forever. I too keep a copy of Windows XP for some classic games that I use, but I know better not to ever connect it to the internet.
Which is filled with a lot of adware and based on an older version of both Apple Safari and Internet Explorer? It makes for a very insecure browser.
Well i never liked xp but i have some old hardware and it can't run 7 or 10 so posready are the option for them. but still why to worry too much posready ar still getting security updates even for internet explorer 8 so whats the problem here ? so why not connect to the internet ? The os is patched up and the browser are too. It's weird because you will not get far with ie8 lol why they pushing updates for ie8 no one uses it Btw, you said tablet edition is ending support soon but the true is Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 ended support on 2011.
I just looking for alternatives don't want to just trash the old hardware. I'm not using xp on my main rig so chill i'm not fighting anything i'm just open minded.
The alternative for the old hardware is 1) Upgrade your OS if possible (Windows 7 perhaps) 2) Keep Windows XP, but do not use The Internet 3) Give Linux a try The most open-minded thing you could do is give Linux a good try
you could try the slimjet browser, loosely based on chrome and quick. that one supports xp, search on google and easy to find, also uses chrome addons, bill
@markokk888 Mainstream support ended for Windows 7 in 2015. And, according to Wikipedia, extended support will end in 2020. It's useless to cling to it. Just give linux a try and see if you like it.
Superb info Carlos - Thanks for sharing that !! Do you know if it will run on XP SP2 ?? (Many new-ish things demand SP3,which I refuse to use.)
Nope, only have SP3 machines for ages. It's something that remains to be tested. Any volunteers with XPSP2?
Mypal is essentially Pale Moon specially compiled for XP (cannot use the Pale Moon moniker for exactly the same reason as Firefox derivatives cannot use Firefox as name). Pale Moon and derivatives (Mypal, Basilisk) are not affected by the Mozilla Firefox Lifecycle. I don't use XP much, anymore, but it seems to work fine*. Note that Mypal will still require SSE2, old XP machines might not be able to run it. To my knowledge, there isn't any Mypal Portable package. *There could be codec issues (video/audio) on these old platforms.
thank you very much Carlos Detweiller. I gave up on xp, knowing that ff esr will end support soon and there is no other browser which can do this job. but now i know that mypal is working just fine. youtube, some po*n and song streaming site are also working fine so i suppose codec issue is not going to bother me. i hope mypal will keep continue support for like next 3 or 4 years more until xp machines die. btw do you know any alternative browser which doesnt require sse2 in xp?
