When I upgraded to 14342 I had the files I couldn't delete. When I upgraded to 14352 Disc Cleanup deleted them. Maybe just wait until the next upgrade

Whenever you encountered usch problem and the Windows.old refused to be deleted simply boot into safe mode and do the delete. It is the most easy way too remove that stuborn folder. It can be very challenging at times after trying all possible means to remove it without successs.

No, safemode does not work for this problem, don't you think we would have already tried that?

    No, it does not.

Read the entire thread instead of guessing what you are replying to

I have tried it several times and it worked. All you need to do is to take ownership from the Security tab of 'Properties' dialog. Stop being petulant, please.

So 3 pages of this thread, you come in and say "Boot into safe mode after taking ownership and giving permissions" and your head is really that HUGE that you think you have solved it with such a simple and obvious solution?, and you really think no-one here would have already tried?

You? The member with probably the least Windows knowledge on this forum?

    Hahahahaa :D :D

Go play in the garden buddy, you have no place here

This is NOT a permissions problem, if you took the time to read

    LMFAO

Oh, any ideas how to solve 3rd world debt and poverty while you're at it?

Seriously?! Did you write that message just to feel good about yourself ? However, I don't have your time. All I know is that it works for me all the time. I hope the poster in question tries it out and tells us about the outcome. I don't care what others have said about it but my view is what I posted here. It worked and it will work.

On the final note, I am not going to reply to your post again. You are fond of childish behavour!

What's stopping you from booting into a Linux distro and deleting what you want ?

Windows permissions mean jack-sh** to Linux...

Nothing, except a 1GB RAM secure boot / UEFI tablet would be a PITA to create a Linux USB stick for each time I want to delete 800KB~ of files left over in windows.old

That, and Windows should be deleting it itself

I had an issue like this, I ended up tracking down the program that used the files (antivirus in my case) then reinstalling the program, this allowed the files to be deleted as they were no longer in use.

They are just two freaking files with the wrong permission doing a clean install, just because that, would be just insane.
