    Those who are upgrading from VL versions may fall Prey of "This Copy of Windows is not Genuine" after some new updates released by M$ - You never know !:g:

    There after they will not be able to use the OEM upgrade method also, since their HWID (Blocked) will be with M$ servers.:eek:

    So Play Safe !!:suicide:

    Hello,

    Do you need to put in a key during installation? Or leave it blank? I'm seeing my install not activated due to "This product key doesn't work".

    If i run gatherosstate on my Windows 10 Pro activated edition, could i use the GenuineTicket.xml to activate it if i make a clean install, or should i do the process with installing Windows 7 and then upgrading like u mentioned in ur thread ?

    Sorry to repeat but have people tried this method over a longer period of time (beyond testing for an hour or two).

    It depends on the definition of GenuineTicket.xml.

    e.g. my GenuineTicket.xml of Windows 7 HomePremium:
    Code:
    OSMajorVersion=6;
    OSMinorVersion=1;
    OSPlatformId=2;
    PP=0;
    Hwid=VQAAABMAKgAAAAAAAgAAAAEAAAACAAAAAQABAAEAwM7E7Kp/Gr0yp4AHkLQa2LyNDAACAAEBAAIFAAMBAAQCAAYBAAgHAAkDAAoBAAwHAAAAAAAAAA==;
    Pfn=Microsoft.Windows.101.X19-98868_8wekyb3d8bbwe;
    DownlevelGenuineState=1;
    DownlevelGenuineState=1

    stands for Windows 7 is genuine, and qualified for free Windows 10 upgrade

    Hwid=VQAAABMAKgAAAAAAAgAAAAEAAAACAAAAAQABAAEAwM7E7Kp/Gr0yp4AHkLQa2LyNDAACAAEBAAIFAAMBAAQCAAYBAAgHAAkDAAoBAAwHAAAAAAAAAA==

    stands for the Windows 10 must be installed on the machine with the same Hwid as Windows 7 HomePremium

    X19-98868

    stands for the target edition and channel (key type) of free Windows 10, i.e. Win 10 RTM Core Retail Edition

    Is the GenuineTicket.xml present in 8.1 to 10 upgrade system. On my 8.1 to 10, I found the genuine ticket folder empty. All hidden files can be seen. Or is it to be pasted in genuineticket folder below:

    C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\ClipSVC\GenuineTicket

    Yes the genuine ticket folder is empty but it should be as perhaps ticket is given/stolen by MS to confirm activation. I did this yesterday:
    1. On a 8.1 to 10 upgrade system, used gather... to get genuineticket.xml
    2. Then I restored thru acronis a clean clean 10 system which was giving activation errors earlier. Made sure that net/wifi was off during restore.
    3. When I got into clean 10, just pasted gen....xml file into folder and rebooted.
    4. Now with net on, instead of saying not activated and change product key (which is useless), it had activate and connect to net. I clicked on activate and it was done.
    5. On reboot, it stayed activated but the xml file was gone.

    Hope this helps.

    Although the method in post 211 did the job for me, I am still keeping my fingers crossed for the time being.
    I am somewhat confused about registering multiple upgrade paths (7, 8.1, 7N, 8.1N, etc) and whether they can cause problems. When I clean install to 10, it stays activated but I do not know which path has been activated by MS. Will have to check tickets.
    I have genuine MAK keys for 7 and 7N (Pro, Ultimate), 8.1 Pro and 8.1 N Pro. Also have 7 Home but that is not useful. For 7 editions, the MAK keys are from 2010 so implying 10 keys for each edition. Not a shortage of genuine keys or paths at all.
    I plan to just install 7 Pro (done), 8.1 Pro (done) and get the upgrade registered/installed. Then gather all the tickets I can.
    7 looks so ancient compared with 10 and even 8.1, so I can live with retired 1 key each of 7 Pro, 7 Ulti, etc.

    I have a laptop with Windows 8.1 activated with Auto-KMS (v2.5.3).
    I copy gatherosstate.exe from a Windows 10 Enerprise 64 bit ISO to C:\ on the Windows 8.1 laptop.
    The size of gatherosstate.exe is 1001 KB (1,024,536 bytes) and its file and product version is 10.0.10240.16384.
    I run gatherosstate.exe on the Windows 8.1 laptop as admin.
    The hourglass shows up for about two seconds, then it disappears.
    Nothing else happens. No GenuineTicket.xml is created.

    What am I doing wrong, or different?

    Free upgrade from windows 7/8/8.1 is only meant to windows 10 home or Pro and certainly not to enterprise
    so, please take gatherosstate.exe from windows 10 home/pro iso and it will work.
    If you want to upgrade to enterprise then you need a cd key.

    Is my system also capable to upgrade to windows 10 using this method?

    Sure. But remember, upgrades are always to the same license type.
    So in your case you'l be on Win 10 trial version :rofl:

    Ok, real sorry, couldn't resist. MDL really is a nice and friendly community.:D

    Anyways. You may have guessed that won't work very well. I don't know to what degree rearm tricks work on win10 but you are much better off reading up on the KMS/Pico and DAZ loader methods for truly activating your windows 7 copy before going through with the upgrade. Just check the windows 7 and DAZ loader sections in this forum for all the info you need. THis stuff is extremely well documented by now.
