[Not working anymore] How to upgrade from W7/8.1 without going through the complete upgrade process

Add 'microsoft . com' to your compatibility view list and add 'http : // * . microsoft . com' to your trusted sites zone of IE11. It works for me.

 

Dell XPS15-9550 with Windows 10 Home installed.

1. Clean install Windows 7 Ultimate
2. Import Dell OEM certificate
3. Confirm already activate
4. Validate genuine online using IE11
5. Run gatherosstatus.exe to generate genuineticket.xml and save it
6. Clean install Windows 10 Pro
7. Copy genuineticket.xml
8. Connect internet and activated.

Thanks for the help everyone, I greatly appreciate it. It looks like adding Microsoft.com to the compatibility list was the key to getting this to work. I presume this is the screen you want to see if you're considered genuine.

 

Here is a question, Can I do this (take the free upgrade) WITHOUT actually upgrading to 10 ? I want it to capture my config so I can "reserve" the option to install 7 OR 10.

I want to KEEP 7 on the machine but, if I want to go to 10 later, I would be able to... Is this possable with this or any method ?

It's for my HTPC that I use WMC on, so I am not ready to put 10 on it...

 

I think no one can have a sure answer on that.

Just install w10 on a vhd, activate it, and then trash the VHD, is matter of 15 minutes, with almost no downtime on your main os, this way you're sure your machine is registered on MS servers.

(Just to avoid doubts, I mean a native VHD installation not on a virtual machine).

 

AH, ok, not that easy. I'll do a complete backup of the system, Do the Windows 10 upgrade on it, after fully updated and setup with my Live account, I'll restore the backup....It should make my key able to upgrade to 10 again, depending if the upgrade expires after some time..

The backup and restore will go to a local drive, it takes like 5 min to backup the OS drive as it's just a basic install with very little extras.

 

Absolutely is the easiest thing ever.

1 create a VHD with the disk manager (and mount it)

2 deploy the wim image on it. Either with dism /apply-image or imagex /apply (ten minutes on an ssd)

3 launch easybcd and add your w10 vhd to the bootloader. (three mouse clicks)

4 reboot, choose win 10 on bootloader and wait for the final phase of the installation (a couple of minutes on SSD)

Until step four 4 your main OS is still up and running and can be used freely

5 activate w10

6 reboot on w7 and (if you want) delete the vhd

That's all. You r main OS is absolutely safe and untouched by the whole process, no need to do backups or other time wasting tasks.

 

hi folks, first of all sorry for my bad english hope you can understand. i have an guestion about this method, for example i have an win7 sp1 activated with daz loader, after doing all of those steps at page 1, am i gonna be able to use windows 10 as win7 like forever i mean, no more activation process or issues in future? also can i do fresh install again if i make a dvd with that downloaded win10 without those steps ?

 

yes, you can do a fresh install with windows 10 DVD. this time do not insert the cd key and continue for installation. you will soon get activated on internet connection, ( when prompted for cd key select "I do not have cd key" and you will be prompted for windows sku selection. here select your sku)

 

im so sorry about asking again but i have to ask cause didnt understand all,

i have installed win7 sp1 ultimate 64bit activated with daz loader updated all the windows updates got windows 10 upgrade icon at system tray
i think i also did validate my windows on i.e i dont know if i did right, cause i didnt recieve any "your windows activated" words on that w w w . microsoft . c o m/genuine/validate/ but after all those it says you can get windows essantials etc
what i understand is, after those steps i have to install windows 10 from that system tray icon it will download as a iso on my desktop
after that i will open it and copy that "gatherosstate.exe" file from that iso to my desktop
then run it and it will extract an "GenuineTicket.xml" then i have to save this
and make a win10 dvd with that iso on desktop
do a fresh install with that dvd and skip enter key at setup
copy that saved "GenuineTicket.xml" to "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\ClipSVC\GenuineTicket" here and reboot

Afaik,
The validation must be 100% correct
The tray icon won't deliver an iso to the desktop.

 

windows 7 to windows 10 upgrade process is one time only. Once you upgraded to windows 10 successfully and you get your windows 10 activated ( i am dead sure that if you follow the first post instruction step by step then your windows 10 will be activated) then this process of " upgradation from windows 7" is no more required for this particular system.
Next time when you want to install windows 10 freshly just boot form windows 10 CD/usb and skip the cd key insertion and your windows 10 will get activated on internet connection this time and onwards each and every time.
Pl remember that windows 7 to windows 10 upgrade process is only one time. once you complete this up-gradation successfully your system's HWID (in easy words activation ID) will be stored in Microsoft's activation server. Next time when you install windows 10 then on internet connection Microsoft's activation server identify your system's HWID as genuinely activated system and hence activate your system each time.

i did download "MediaCreationTool" app and when i open it there have no opinion for windows 10 pro it only shows windows 10 (probably home) and windows10 single langue

after trying to validate windows downloading legitcheck says "windows genunie isn't verified"

i dont know why, already did daz loader activate and windows says its activated but cant verify it on microsoft

But the mediacreation tool downloads Multiple Editions versions containing both "Home" and "Pro", 10SL is "Home" only.
