[Not working anymore] How to upgrade from W7/8.1 without going through the complete upgrade process

Every version of Windows has been free so far thanks to the hard work of lots of people here at MDL, haha. I don't see why that will change too much.

Why Android in winning market share? Why so many Windows desktop versions? Only open source will be in future because world is going to open source. By asking for Windows money and no free upgrade there is no win for Microsoft! Closed source and big price for products is history or yesterday!!! Sorry Microsoft fans but this is reality! Windows must be one version for desktop by supporting ARM and other architectures which supports Linux and must be free. This is answer to this thread!

Would be shocked if they DONT extend it or in 2-3 months after it expires, offer it again for a limited window. Why? Microsoft's new Goal is Apps for Windows. Devs creating apps, that they sell in the store and Microsoft makes a % of each item sold. To make this work, they need AS MANY PEOPLE on Windows 10 as possible. Still with offering it for FREE, Windows 7 shares are still a HUGE chunk higher in use.

They saw the model that Apple follows with the store with a billion apps, they want that now for Windows... If they can get 50% of the computers in the world on Windows 10, Devs will be begging to put their apps on Windows 10 (universal apps, hitting Xbox and Windows Phone with minor code changes) and Microsoft will make HUGE profits from it.

I don't think they are planning to make huge money off Windows itself sales, it comes down to the addons, and in that case the apps.

THIS is why I think they will extend it...

 

They would have to pay me a lot more than $9.99 to get me to use it / fight with it.

Life is simply to short to use shiit like that.

 

Not a chance they'll pay you to install it, maybe a store credit?? Haha

 

First of all i want to thank you so much for this useful post.
For those who don't know there is also another way which doesn't need a reformat or partition and is installing win 10 in a virtual hard drive (vhd file).
As i wasn't ready to give up on windows 7 or partition my disk thats what i used yesterday and worked as mentioned here on MDL and others.

Added: So now i have dual boot 1st my previous Windows 7 installation and 2nd clean windows 10 install in a vhd file.

 

Hello! Can you plz describe how to do that? I dont want hassle to backup data and reinstall all other software.

Think of Windows 10 more along the line of a Shareware OS, and you'll be in a happy bliss

The methods described there and the whole post is about to clean install windows 10 so you will have to reinstall all other software.
If you dont want to install your software again then backup and upgrade your installation.
