Afaik, the countdown shows the numbers for your timezone, so what you see is what is left.

win 8/8.1 Pro will upgrade to win 10 Pro by default.

Similarly, win 8/8.1 Core will also upgrade to win 10 Home by default.

That is why you did not get an option to choose the version.

And since a oem:Dm key already existed in the BIOS, you were not asked for a product key.

Which is why many owners of budget notebooks which came with win 8.1 Core oem:Dm keys install win 7 Pro, activate with Daz loader & only then upgrade to win 10 Pro using the following ei.cfg file which bypasses the Home/Pro choice & installs the Pro version straightaway:
    Code:
    [EditionID]
    Professional

    [Channel]
    Volume

    [VL]
    0

Not to mention the numerous syndicates worldwide who have harvested millions of 'Digital Entitlements' in the hope that they will be able to link them to m$ accounts (m$As) which has been made possible in the August 2 win 10 update.

They then plan to sell the m$As to owners of completely different hardware for a price & rake in the money.

Also it appears highly unlikely that m$ will be able to have 1 billion win 10 installations in 2-3 years when only around 300 million have been installed so far.

So it makes solid business sense for m$ to continue the free upgrade offer for another year at least if they ever hope to achieve their stated installation target.

m$ seems to have forgotten that the novelty value of a new OS does not last very long.

    Europe has many time zones.

So the countdown will be accurate (i.e. correspond to your local time zone) only if you do not use a VPN or anonymous proxy server to access the countdown site.

My understanding is that after the deadline you can upgrade your previous Windows to Windows 10 but you can't activate it excepting you have to pay to purchase the product key to do so. Those who deliberately missed out of the opportunity by being ornery would have themselves to blame not Microsoft.

Another question would be how many he has been able to do on his own without asking for help. Seems to spend more time posting questions that actually doing upgrades, which are usually quite simple.

Yes, the genuine ticket file should disappear after Win 10 activation completes, but the MS activation servers might be running slow, especially today ...

I believe the deadline is midnight at UTC-10, which is Hawaiian time. There's about 17 hrs remaining as of now.

I find the free upgrade mostly useless for me, because i constantly switch hardwares on my laptop and desktop, render HWID became invalid and i'm tired of fixing it. o_O

    5 hrs remaining here.

    3 x 8.1 machines.

Asking for help, guidance & opinions.

I want to stay on 8.1 - but I also want to bank the free Win 10 (licenses) while I can.

What is the best way of banking the Win 10 licenses today before the deadline - without having to install/upgrade to win 10 on each.

    Is this even possible?

(Currently the machines are stable - so I don't want to risk the headache of installing then rolling back - if I can avoid it. I may move to W10 in the future, but for now - things are working and I can't risk this).

My gratitude to any that are willing to help me find a solution,

    Bakersfield
