    I believe it's encrypted?
When you run the AT upgrader, it downloads a product.xml file which lists ALL the ESD's and 'keys' though!

I wasn't here while the upgrade installed, so I missed grabbing the contents, but I have more systems to test on.
Upgrading via this method is a bit cumbersome for me, but can confirm it works - Win 7 Pro now running on Win 10 Pro activated with DE.

That is possible, but i didn't find a downloadlink using fiddler to see where the esd came from, the esd you found can be already decrypted by the upgrade process.

My computer came with Windows 10 Home pre-installed. I assume that means that my HWID is tied to a Win 10 Home key in Microsoft database. Since I need Hyper-V, I tried doing update using AT upgrader. I did the following:

    1) I installed Windows 8.1 Pro, installed a genuine key that I purchased a while back, and activated it online.
    2) I downloaded AT upgrader and started download. I was not prompted to chose what version of Windows do I want (Home/Pro/x86/x64). I assumed that was detected automatically since I was running Windows 8.1 Pro x64.
    3) After the download was finished I was prompted to chose "Save personal Files" or "Delete everything". After choosing either option on following screen I received message that my computer will be upgraded to Windows 10 Home.

Now, does that means that if my computer had its HWID saved with Windows 10 Home edition, I am stuck with that?
I tried to use Media Creation Tool, to force Windows 10 Pro download, but when I run it there are only 3 possible options (Windows 10, Windows 10 Single Language and Windows 10 N). Has the possibility to download Windows 10 Pro been removed from Media Creation Tool?

Anyways, I am sitting stuck with Windows 10 Home at the moment, and AT upgrade is not allowing me to get Windows 10 Pro when I perform upgrade from genuine Windows 8.1 Pro.

    Any ideas?

    Regards

Your preinstalled Home isn't tied to a HWID but to the oem:Dm bioskey.

You have had a whole year to do it, even a direct clean install of 10Pro and activating it with the bought 8.1 key. Or you could have simply upgraded from 10 Home to Pro by changing the productkey and inserting the generic key for Pro (ending on 3v66t) and then you could have activated Pro by using your bought 8.1 pro key.

Some say the normal upgrade should still work, testing atm.

@ait : This happened to me with one of my laptops. Licensed for 8 Home, but I had 7 Pro installed on it. It updated to 10 Home without asking.
Reinstalled 7 Pro and then did the genuineticket method and 10 Pro - activated. It now activates using either Home or Pro!

You should be fine to use the AT upgrader in 8.x Pro to get to 10 Pro.

The upgrade checks for the oem:Dm if you use 10586 and up installmedia and won't let you upgrade to another version than the oem:Dm is for. You can do an upgrade in that situation to pro using the 10240 iso, it's not capable of reading out the oem:Dm and will let you upgrade from 7 Pro/ulti to 10 Pro on a system with an oem:Dm key for home.

It is actually a new computer that I purchased on 28th July, I just didn't have time to thinker with it until this morning. Sadly :(

I finally managed to force Windows 10 Pro download instead of Home, so I will try to upgrade it now from Windows 8.1 Pro and see what happens at the end.

Thank you very much for a quick reply.

For those who're using the GenuineTicket.xml method, before using the gatherosstate.exe make sure there's either ethernet or wireless drivers installed as there's at least one MAC address exists in the system to generate the XML file. (The proper one has around 1.73-1.74KB in size)

Correct if using MCT. (My original problem) I used Techbench and it allowed me to choose which solved the issue though. :)

Tried that. The AT version of gatherosstate.exe is half the size compared to the ones that come in the Win 10 installation source folder. Makes me wonder if it requires special parameters to trigger the collection. If we can find what this is, it'll make the job a bit easier! :)

Did you try the gatherosstate from the 10586 iso? Some say the normal upgrade to get HWID still works. On 7 SP1 fully uptodate i don't get the win 10 nagging icon and no upgrade offered anymore.

    SHA1 on the esd: 307BD8370AE2CA35FF7195739FDA67F9B7A98DF7

If You're still downloading or verifying the Upgrade read the upgrader_default txt file. I'm still thinking that even though the esd is the same, the rest of the upgrade download is machine specific  And for some reason Bat's Daz loaded copies in VM continue to fail at 2% installed with error code 0x80070057

Yep, tried that and it wouldn't activate the system (see earlier post).

Running AT on a second machine now:
Can confirm ESD is encrypted, it downloads, decrypts it using local key, then runs setup silently. It seems to run an OOBE script with a "CorrelationVector" which contains what looks like an generated ID unique to the system. I can see my HWID being transmitted to MSFT in the log files (these aren't deleted post setup).

Have nabbed the ESD file, but checking it out - seems straight stock Feb '16 ESD.

It's weekend, give Microsoft some time to deactivate the activation system :sarcasm:
