Success indeed. Thanks to Enthousiast and RAA007.

I am downloading en_windows_10_multiple_editions_x64_dvd_6846432.iso from TechNet (it has 2015 date stamp on it) and making ei.cfg file to try a clean install. I will report results, but it should be activated.

I am presuming that I can keep this pre-1511 ISO for all future re-installations, tho I don't expect there to be any. MS did a really good job since Windows 7, I can hardly remember when was the last time I had to reinstall my system.

    Best regards to all members.

While Bat don't think :g: (not posed to think on Sunday) it's a necessity, Him thought it was a "Good Idea" to upgrade all His PCs with the embedded 8.* Core Keys to Build 14371 (?) or later and link a Fresh MSA to the Pro OS :) Later Kids offline to sweat in the heat

Why nothing whatsoever. But, many of us who frequent forums like this, like to try new things that bring new features and such. Sure there can be some heartburn associated with new fangled things, but that’s just a way of life for the adventurous. Nothing ventured; nothing gained. And given the power most of our computers have, a little eye candy is a fun thing.

As to bloat, spying and the like, well … there are ways to get rid of the bloat in the tweaking process (which apparently we all do) and “spying” is a matter of opinion but it too can be negated to a great extent if not fully. One thing’s for sure, when those of us who’ve worked with both “spying” and “bloat” speak out, it’s based on actual experience and not hearsay.

If you on the other hand have found your comfort zone in old and sometimes limited things, then good on you. I in fact drive a straight shift 1999 pickup truck, still have a perfectly functioning 36” CRT TV and the same wife for the last 25 years. On that last item, I did upgrade in 1991.

    Life is good.

EDIT August 1st: thread removed & comments were merged into Yen's gatherosstate.exe thread.

Windows 10 free upgrade continues for customers who use assistive technologies

"For the general public, the free upgrade offer for Windows 10 ends on July 29. However, if you use assistive technologies, you can still get the free upgrade offer even after the general public deadline expires as Microsoft continues our efforts to improve the Windows 10 experience for people who use these technologies."

    h t t p s ://www-microsoft-com/en-us/accessibility/windows10upgrade

Will edit the top post when I can to let everyone know that the normal upgrade is still working.

Edit July 31st: MS servers are still accepting the regular free upgrades according to recent posts in this thread, and elsewhere on MDL. The July 29th free upgrade deadline is not (yet) being enforced. Meanwhile, the assistive technologies upgrade path gives us something new to play with.

And when you do finally upgrade to Windows 10, you can use this forum as a vast storehouse of knowledge concerning bloat, spying and telemetry fixes.

For now it´s just too early to see what´s what in MS´ free-upgrade-la-la-land.

At least we should wait for the RS1 release and the resp. MSDN ISOs especially for the Enterprise and Enterprise S editions.
One thing is more true than ever: MS knows how to surprise: New restrictions for Enterprise (S), new KMS activation policies and techniques, more control, more cloud, more telemetry ? All or none or some of that, we´ll see soon...

That reminds me of a high school classmate of mine. She's been waiting for the perfect husband her entire life. She just turned 70 and she's still waiting. We all know and love Microsoft and we're all well acquainted with their tactics. But if you're waiting for Microsoft to suddenly have a crisis of conscience and cut out the bloat and stop the telemetry, you'll likely be waiting for a very long time.

Best approach seems to me to be aware of what's happening and have an "escape plan". At pretty much the drop of a hat I can revert to Windows 95, 98, 2000, NT, XP or 7 ... and several iterations of Linux distros I like. I can do the same for Microsoft Office if need be: 97, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007, 2010 and 2016. And of course there's LibreOffice.

Like I said guys, first update the target machine to latest BIOS since if you upgrade BIOS later on, you might lose activation.

Install clean W7 SP1 from a bootable USB.
Install the Ethernet driver for Windows 7 and check you have Internet access.
Daz it and get it activated.
    Install a program called WinCDEmu.

Download the W10 ISO from Microsoft's official ISO downloads page
Put the downloaded ISO onto a normal USB drive (at least 8 GB) and verify the checksum to make sure it's not corrupted. Just copy the ISO file onto this USB, no need to use Rufus or something else.

Plug in USB into the computer which has activated W7 then find the W10 ISO then right click on the ISO image and mount with WinCDEmu software remembering to tick "Keep mounted across reboots". Autoplay will prompt you to run setup.exe then W10 software will start and you can upgrade freely still ! Make sure to tell the setup to keep nothing from your W7 install.

Check you are activated with slmgr /xpr and slmgr /dlv and bingo, MSFT has your info.

Install 7 SP1 from any working source, not only bootable usb, dvd will also work.

Why use any extra software, just extract the 10 iso to an USB drive (no need for FAT32 for upgrade purpose) or even on the desktop if you want and start setup.exe.

As soon as windows reboots for the first time the usb drive isn't even used anymore.

Name is BILL GATES - So the GATES are open for everybody to upgrade and get a DE - He wants to get HWID of all machines and finally BILL will start the BILLING (Subscription).

When Windows 11 will come, then you have to pay for upgrade and can't escape as your HWID is in their database and OS can connect to the server to find out the status of the HWID.

This is the reason M$ wants to give Windows 10 for FREE to those who use assistive technologies -(M$ Dictionary of assistive technologies includes 'DAZ loader', KMS tools etc.) So it is M$ plan to still get everyone into the trap to register their HWID's.

Earlier we could install more than one OS in one machine with physical HDD partitions and officially activated. But now with DE method only one OS can have DE attached to one HWID in future I think (May be wrong). I am not talking about having multi OS as VM's.:g:
