[Not working anymore] How to upgrade from W7/8.1 without going through the complete upgrade process

PK = Product Key

Previous valid PK will only be accepted by the Win 10 GUI for activation via Free DE.
Meaning you cannot slmgr -ipk with a Win7/8 PK you have to use the GUI

Once activated the system will revert to the default PK

 

This thread is meant for establishing a HWID without going thru the whole upgrade-process by using gatherosstate.exe to create a genuineticket.xml, not about (re)using a previous windows key.

Yesterday, I upgraded a Windows 7 machine to Windows 10. However the genuineticket way didn't work.
I put the GenuineTicket.xml file in the GenuineTicket folder on a newly installed Windows 10 (harddisk formated without entering a product key during installation)
But it could not activate using the slmgr -ato command og by using the settings menu. The Windows 7 pc was activated using SLIC activation

First when I entered the Windows 7 COA product key in the Settings menu, it would activate.

Maybe, Microsoft now demands a working old product key in exchange for an activated copy of Windows 10

You had an activated Windows 7, copied gatherosstate from latest w10 iso, ran it, followed the rest of the directions, and w10 didnt activate?

 

Yes, I ran the gatherosstate.exe from the 14393 ISO and followed the procedure. Also I ensured that the LAN driver on Windows 7 was installed. I have activated many copies of Win 10 before without problems

 

When the procedure is done correctly there is no need for any commands to activate.

Just make sure that windows is offline during first boot, insert genuineticket and reboot, go online.

I have a new comp. that wont allow me to install Windows 7 to obtain a GenuineTicket.
So i just installed Windows 10 Home and activated it with KMSpico.
Then i ran gatherosstate and generated a GenuineTicket.
Saved it to an external HD.
Reinstalled Windows 10 and followed the procedure in OP
And VOILA Windows 10 Home is activated with a Digital Licence

If the system already had a win 8.1 Home oemm key embedded in the BIOS, this would be normal.

In fact, only running gatherosstate.exe & using the generated GenuineTicket.xml as per procedure in OP would be enough for successful activation.

Installing & activating win 10 Home with KMSpico to generate GenuineTicket.xml could be skipped completely.

But since you haven't mentioned whether an installation of win 8.1 already existed, I have my doubts.

That's why i asked someone to test it on a real system, my systems all have 4 HWID's already (for Home (N) and Pro (N)).

 

If you put an other HD with different size and an other GPU in one of your systems you should be able to test as the activation is depending on hardware

 

I can exchange all HD's i have, it doesn't affect the HWID activation, exchanging the GPU also isn't affecting HWID activations.
