Is it still possible to upgrade Windows 8.1 64-bit Core edition (OEM) to Windows 10 Creators Update using the ISO file?, little afraid if anything goes wrong:eek:.

Last time i tested i had to use the 1511 aka 15086 iso to establish the free HWID upgrading from 8.1 KMS activated install, for legit 8.1 systems the gatherosstate route should still work.

The gatherosstate route won't work on KMS activated 8.1 systems.

If the OEM key is a systembuilder OEM key, it should work directly by clean installing 10 and use the key to activate.

If the OEM key is an oem : dm bioskey, direct clean installing 10/gatherosstate.exe (to be sure generate a genuineticket.xml) should also still work, it will use the oem : dm key from the bios.

To start, please provide the following info:

What windows is running on the laptop and how it's activated? Did you keep the laptop offline till after pasting the genuineticket.xml and rebooting?

It's still on 8.1 Core? That would upgrade to 10 Home.

The key is an 8.1 Core oem : dm bioskey. You should be able to use the generated genuineticket.xml to activate a clean 10 Home install.

I installed W8.1 since I can't install W7 on my computer, now I want to do the upgrade but I don't know how, since with the official tool it will probably pull the creators update, and it won't be able to activate because it needs an earlier version, what did you guys do? Also, if I activate W8.1 with KMSpico, will my W10 have a Retail key? or a VL one? Thanks.

But that's what I don't get, should I burn it to my USB, and then run it from "My PC" with my computer turned on? Or if I start the installation process (shutting down the computer and then booting from the USB) it will automatically do the HWID process? Thank you for your help.

Mount the ISO in Explorer and run the setup.

Stop hovering to collapse... Click to collapse... Hover to expand... Click to expand...

That is the British ISO not the en-US iso but now you have a valid HWID for that system :)

    Uh quick question...

Since the current Windows 10 isos accept all 7/8/8.1 keys to upgrade, this method is no longer required if one has key, right?
Simply clean install of 10 then typing older key would upgrade right?
