I'm pretty sure gatherosstate.exe needs to match the OS you are running it in. If your OS is x86 make sure you run the x86 version. I haven't tried the x86 version in x64 though. But I am positive the x64 version will not work on an x86 OS. I know I have launched the x86 version in an x64 OS and it did seem to create a ticket... but I did not try activating with that ticket.

But it does not matter what edition you get it from. Home or Professional seem to be the same files.

Update: x86 gatherosstate.exe does not work in x64 environment. I just tried again and it failed to create a ticket.

This is Windows we're talking about here, a reboot may not be necessary, but its always advisory :p

    This works like a charm!
    Thank you.

It works also if deploying Win10 from an image.
This is what I did in one PC:

    1) Restored a win 7 home premium image activated with DAZ using Norton Ghost. All image included as driver is the LAN driver .
    2) After the win7 image was restored, I rebooted once after win7 tried to install drivers. I selected also "skip windows update" for drivers
    3) Once rebooted, using Internet explorer I went to www . microsoft . com/genuine/validate. Downloaded the windows activation tool, allowed it to run and update.
    4) Once the web page displayed "you are running genuine windows" I ran the gatherosstate.exe copied from the Win10 ISO. Genuine certificate was created in the same folder I ran the gatherosstate.exe tool.
    5) Copied the .xml of the genuine certificate to a flash drive. Rebooted to restore windows 10 from an image.
    6) Restored windows 10 home from an image using norton ghost. While Ghost was restoring, I disconnected the LAN cable.
    7) After the image restore was complete, I rebooted. Windows 10 started, I allowed it to make it to the desktop. Once in the desktop, I opened file explorer and copied the XML of the genuine certificate to the clipsvc folder. Rebooted.
    8) As soon as the machine started rebooting, I reconnected the LAN cable.
    9) Once in the windows desktop, I opened file explorer, checked the clipsvc folder. The XML of the certificate was gone. I checked PC properties, windows 10 shows as activated.

Thanks for discovering this one guys, this is a time saver :)

For those of us that updated from an activated build 10130 to an activated RTM 10240.
But found that after a clean install or reset the device wouldn't activate.
    This works perfectly.

    Process:
    1. Clean install W10 build 10130 and activated Online.
    2. Disconnect from net and copied gatherosstate.exe from W10 build 10240 ISO
    3. Ran gatherosstate.exe as Admin.and backed up GenuineTicket.xml to USB drive
    4. Wiped drive and clean installed W10 build 10240 while Offline
    6. Stopped Clipsvc service and opied GenuineTicket.xml to the correct folder
    7. Rebooted, connected to the net and device was activated.

    Just to make sure...
    8. Wiped drive and clean installed W10 build 10240 again, this time while Online.
    Device was fully activated

Thanks Guys, this is an awesome trick. :worthy:

    @xinso,
I still don't know what was happening, but I've got it done now, see post #105 :)

I used this tablet in the Insider Preview and had Pro activated, but every time I did a clean install or a reset it would fail activation

I even managed to mess up the partition table yesterday, so I did a clean install this morning which activated on first boot.

    1. I downgraded Enterprise 10130 to Pro, then re-activated online
    2. Get GenuineTicket.xml of 10130 Pro
    3. Clean installed 10240 Pro and activated online with that ticket.

Would I be able to upgrade from Win 7x86 to Win 10x64 using this method?

I quite like that you had the opportunity to pirate Windows 10 Pro but you decided to stick with Windows 10 Home. Although being able to use bitlocker without escrowing your keys with Microsoft and using Hyper-V for mobile phone development with Visual Studio are features that Home really should have. Visual Studio Community is free to get kids into development but the area they are likely to want to get into will involve them spending money.

I didn't think you could activate insider builds anymore. Did you originally upgrade from a qualifying OS?

Why not read carefully and/or test it yourself?

    Before 29/07/2016

    1. Install pre-10240 build that is still valid and activate online with appropriate key

    2. Copy gatherosstate.exe from Windows 10 ISO\sources to C:\

    3. Run the command with Command Prompt (Admin), and a GenuineTicket.xml will be generated at C:\
    Code:
    C:\gatherosstate
    4. Backup the GenuineTicket.xml to external USB, or other partition

    5. Clean install 10240

    6. Place the GenuineTicket.xml in 10240 C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\ClipSVC\GenuineTicket

    7. Restart

    8. With internet connected, check activation status by the command line

    Code:
    slmgr /dlv

@x86 gatherosstate.exe does not work in x64 environment.

I use x86 gatherosstate.exe to get GenuineTicket.xml on both architectures.

    Can I switch x86 and x64

    My Question :

If I activated x86 on my PC - Can I later switch to x64 clean install when I upgrade RAM?

Is the activation on one Hardware is restricted to either x86 or x64 ? :g:

This means one can switch to either x86 or x64 after activating it once.

    @Tito,
    Thanks! for the Info.:tasty:
