Do you have EFI or bios runed on?

I tried doing that with my laptop MSI GS706QE (which came with Windows 10 home originally) with EFI enabled and didn't work. It default back to Windows 10 Home instead of Windows 10 Pro. This is really frustrating..

    thanks in advanced

that's because you have machine that was bought with home pre installed edition, so when you install win10 iso (home + pro), it's home edition that is installed automatically.

i suppose that you used win10 iso (1607 or 1703) for the installation because if you had downloaded win10 1709 (16299) VL version, you wouldn't have had this problem as home edition is not present on that version.

    Thanks for your answer mehdibleu.

I'm downloading "Windows 10 (1709) Fall Creators Update (FCU) Download (Build 16299.15) – Standard".
Your saying that if I can get that ISO, I will be able to install the pro edition with this ISO?

What about the license after install?

Every original MS Retail Win 10 ISO contains a Home (aka Core) version. Only the Volume ISOs don't have that SKU.

So if you have a MSDM table for Home, any untouched Retail ISO will install the Home version. Needs a ei.cfg file in \sources\ folder of the ISO to get the Edition Choice screen during install.

win10 1709 version apparently does not have home version so if it's the case he can use this iso to install pro version, no need to use ei.cfg file.

The clientconsumer iso contains Home, the VL iso doesn't, he could use that iso to install too.

He can use this tool to get the clientconsumer iso or the VL iso:

i saw your screen and i don't cause any confusion, i just wanted to mention that there was another way to get the 16299 VL iso. That's all.

    @Yen
Hi man and thanks for your message, awesome!

I tried this before on my MSI GS70 6QE laptop which came with Windows 10 Home, (and I need Windows 10 Pro), with EFI bios enabled and it didn't work. (I installed Windows 7 Ultimate following these procedures).

Though I'm thinking, did I do this right? On step 2, I have a doubt:

"2.1 Copy gatherosstate.exe from your downloaded Windows 10 10240/10586/14393/15063/16299 ISO to your installation which should be upgraded."

You mean copy gatherosstate.exe from the Windows 10 Pro ISO to ???? "My installation which should be upgraded"?? I'm not sure if I follow...

What does "Copy gatherosstate.exe from the ISO to my installation which should be upgraded" mean exactly?

Shall I copy it to my installed windows 7 directory? or I'll copy it from the ISO folder to ???? I'm not sure, can you please clarify this to me?

Thank you in advanced and sorry for the stupid question.

you copy the gatherosstate.exe from your downloaded win10 iso, you put it for example in the desktop then you execute the file from your win7/win8.1 installed windows, at this moment a xml file will be generated which is genuineticket.xml, you copy this file to usb stick to keep it safe and when you will decide to do a win10 clean install, you paste this xml file to the path which is described at OP, you reboot your win10 and it will be activated after that.

Hi mehdibleu, thanks for your followup. Now I understood it.

I did exactly that last time and it didn't work, I had the EFI boot system enabled. Do I need to disable the EFI boot system and put it on Legacy mode?

    thanks

If i'm correct, with or without EFI, that doesn't matter, it should work as well.
Was your win7 ultimate activated ? if so, how did you activate it ? which tool ?

It was activated, I ran the Daz loader, then in the system properties it said that the windows was activated. Then I installed Windows 10, chose Windows Pro and followed the procedures, including putting the ticket in the directory.
After that, I rebooted with wireless off, then turned the wireless on and tried it out but it revert back to Windows 10 Home...frustrating really, i gave 1500 euros for the laptop and cant even install whatever the heck I want...

EDIT: do I need to get rid of the system recovery partition that came with the laptop?
