    I have a Win 8.1 x64 laptop.

Lately, I observe that after each restart of Win 8.1, default notepad software that comes with Win, resets its font to Arial.

I have to change the Font manually. I prefer Consolas font. Consolas stays for the whole session until I restart the laptop.

Can anyone know how to resolve this?

    Thanks

Try exiting notepad by FILE - EXIT, not the X in upper right.

Still a good recommendation, as it's highly customizeable :cool2:. Maybe you start doing more ... :g:.

Thank you. I'll definitely try it . But I'm also curious enough to solve this bugging issue.

Although i refuse to use this useless crap, i checked the default settings on mine, and found them being set to 'Consolas' (standard, size: 11) :g:.

... and the 'IfFaceName' entry is missing in registry :hmm:.

lol ... my screenpost was made off enterprise 8.1 but when looking into 8.1pro, it really does not show there except in current machine section as consolas

edit: when opening notepad in 8.1pro, default font is set to consolas and when opening enterprise arial is set to default which means that reg entry shown above supersedes entry in current machine settings

Whatever I set the font to be in Notepad appears in the reg key you mentioned Paul.

    The Font Caper continues...

    ETA - I am using 8.1 Pro x64

Current User show font I set in Notepad
Local Machine shows Consolas as default font

    Makes sense to me.

Hmm, it lacks 'multiple undo history' function, syntax highlighting, lines counter, several other counting functions, and most important; it mostly fails when it comes to paste formatted text into it, line breaks get screwed (yeah, one liner with 10000 characters ).

Not worth bothering with at all :g:.

I'm on 8.1 home edition. Regedit > User > ..> notepad , I see iffacename as consolas. And also the same in Reg > Local Machine > .. > Notepad, iffacename set as Consolas.
Still when I restart the system, it gets to Arial.

    Thanks for the screenshot.

checked into this and found same settings in both windows versions after having changed the fonts in the "Format" section to any style and they continue to these settings. Consolas is kind of default stuff shown in current machine but altered settings are displayed in current user section and are saved there. Re-opening notepad always shows newly saved font but not default one
