Any suggestions about how can I clear Notification Area from icons that have been left behind after a program uninstallation in Windows 7? Thanks in advance
In Regedit navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify. Delete IconStreams and PastIconsStream in the right pane. Immediately reboot or stop Explorer in Task Manager and then restart it. Any custom settings you had for Hide/Show will need to be reset.
Unfortunately nothing happened. Neither the icons behaviors changed, nor the not needed icons cleared. Thanks for your response
Maybe try to delete icon cache database - c:\Users\"UserName"\AppData\Local\IconCache.db - then reboot to re-create that file. Helps in some troubled icons situations.
Do the Registry Editor deletion of IconStreams and PastIconsStreams as mentioned above. Instead of immediate Reboot, start Task Manager. Right click each instance of Explorer.exe and End Process. Before closing Task Manager, go to File/New Task (Run...)/ and type explorer.exe and press Enter. This will start a new instance of explorer.exe and rebuild the IconStreams and PastIconsStreams for the Notification Area Icons. If you want to check to make sure it worked, Reboot now. All should be good.
