well, i guess your on your own with this until i get my hands on my friends 8510w, since he's too scared to do this by himself, after reading this thread. he thinks i have the 'magic' touch, since both my desktop and laptop have successfully been modded to slic2.1 ill update, when i do get my hands on his laptop. do please update if you do figure this out before i do. im sure the info will be very useful for others.
Well, I tried to flash the BIOS with the dos rompaq but it does not work/flash anything. Tried a few versions. I also tried the version here somewhere attached to a post, but that one also says file error. Any commandline options to skip file/crc check. Or any old version that works? Thanks. A hpqflash with no SIG check is good also! ;-)
Hi, Mystery solved!!!!! I had to get the HP DMI utility and run the command HPBI103 WRITE SLP ON! Now I have an SLIC table in my F.15 BIOS. Darren
Hi, Did you get the 8510w patched? It seems the SLIC occurs twice in the BIOS files... Did you patch it in both places in the file provided? Darren
Hi, It seems I have the "curse of the 2 SLIC 2.0 occurrences". I modified it in both places but since block 15 is not flashed this BIOS is currently non SLIC 2.1 flashable. Darren
yah i noticed it, i didnt patch both the first time around, so i remodded and just left it at that, havent had access to a 8510w yet, so havent tried it... the other tread seems to makes progress, be it really small, but still progress
Thanks for your post! I know its been awhile, but you said you "made a usb drive via other method" - could you be more specific on how you made the bootable usb drive, what software did you use? - specifically does it have to be formatted like a 1.44 floppy? and did you ENABLE Floppy Boot under BIOS 'Boot Options'? I have no problem making a bootable USB flash drive, its the "floppy" part I find confusing. My main requirement is to remove the wlan whitelist so I can upgrade my wlan card which no longer authenticates at a place of work. Thanks again!
