Not really. There are many features in Essentials that aren't in any other edition, such as the media server, remote web access, and easy setup. You can't expect someone with not much experience in Windows Server to set up anything comparable on their own. You can always upgrade to Standard to keep (most of) the Essentials functionality, and get the additional features such as Hyper-V.
Having verified everything I am doing (and also going so far as to register with the e-mail I signed up with saying I was from Russia), I am unable to get this to work. It keeps saying the verification code is invalid. I have double checked the typing of it, as well as copied each segment individually. I am using IE9 to do so. I registered for three different courses (the free ones obviously). Is this still a valid means of getting a key? Or am I just doing something wrong (and need to start this process again). EDIT: Seems like the code I was sent was bad. Signed up for a new account, and the new code gave me access.
Thank you 100 there are so many with not many experience at all, but enough to set up Essentials, Simpler Interface Says it all. I work with Standard as a Small Homeserver, but i tested the Essentials, and found out, that all the reconfiguring to let it work more as a Workstation 2012, is standard build in the Essentials version. Also it will get Hyper-V and 75 Users.
Can I downgrade from Standard to Essentials simply by installing Essentials over Standard? Will the Standard licence remain valid for Essentials as well?
No, you will have to do a clean install in able to downgrade. Your licence is tied so your hardware to your licence will remain valid no matter what edition you choose to play with as long as it is on the came PC or Server.
So did I miss it or am I doing something wrong? I just followed everything and when I click on the dreamspark link it says the program has ended but come back later? Am I doing something wrong? Thanks.
Nearly forgot this thread...donĀ“t believe the trick is still working after all that time. Get a version from one of the repositories and activate agains a KMS-Host or build your own one, to become truly permanently activated .
Nearly forgot this thread? You only posted it a month and a half ago. A good thing gets shut down that fast? Guess I'm new to all this. Speaking of which could you explain a little more about the repositories and KMS? I'm looking for server 2008 or 2012 keys. I had a good day earlier this year when I found a chinese website that had a crap ton of Windows 7 keys. So my search continues. But any help would be great. Thanks.
In this case is better to ask explicit question in right stickies...and you will get a helping hand ear
I'm pretty sure I'm an idiot cause I have no idea what you just said. I also tried to send you a PM stating just that. However it seems I can't read either cause it says I can't send PM until I hit at least 5 posts.
Can somebody confirm dreamspark keys work on essentials too? And what about websitespark keys? I thought only the DC and Standard keys are interchangeable.
Are pleased to announce that Intuit for students registered in the training courses on Microsoft, is now available program DreamSpark. Unfortunately, the codes for the DreamSpark program ended. Go to the site later. Intuit.ru administration sent a request to Microsoft to receive a code by program DreamSpark.
