What is your error message exactly?

I have installed my own recovery Tools on my laptop (Windows 8, GPT-UEFI) and I was able to restore from the recovery partition without any problem....

    Hi,

I used the previous version when i installed it succesfully on windows 7 x64.

Now, i am trying to install it with Windows 8 x64, and i am getting a:

Windows cannot read the <ProductKey> setting from the unattend answer file.

I read up online about this error, and it seems it happens only on VMWare... which i am not setting this onto...

Somehow, i am doing things correctly i think, because the USB key is plugged in, and Windows 8 see the unattend file and uses it to start the setup, but i get this everytime i boot... is there something missing in the documentation on where to put the Windows 8 product key in the unattend file? I didn't see anything in the instructions regarding to this...

How can i go around this error? Anyone?

Well, i just got past the ProductKey... but it still not working...

What am i doing wrong... can anyone help?

I managed to install windows 8 x64 when i passed the productkey problem, but when i installed windows, it asked me to create partitions... which i didn't because the unattend file is supposed to do so... windows was installed, i never was in audit mode, i switch to OOBE to check the partitions, and i had 4, but nothing close to what is required for the recovery thing to work... i tried that with the GPT unattended file...

Now i tried with the MBR file, and it doesn't work with the PID.txt, i get the productkey problem everytime...

This was working like a charm under windows 7... my 1st time trying it with windows 8... instructions are kinda hard to follow for troubleshooting... is there a way i can setup the partition manually or something?

    I'm Completely new to this.
I need a Recovery partition as i format many times to get a fresh copy of windows.

But i'm confused in many things.

I have Win8 installed on my PC
But soon gonna format my PC,So i want to create a recovery partition this time.
My harddisk has already a system partition of 100mb.But you say needed is 300 mb,how to make it??
Is is safe to make with partition wizard or this software will make that happen.
I have partition in following order
    System-->Windows[C:]-->Recovery[d:]-->Store[e:]-->Downloads[f:]
But thats not the proper order for this software as i read.
So will this software make all changes.
I have 1TB hard disk & so many data are stored in store & downloads.I want to make these data safe.[I read Disk will be reset & i may LOOSE DATA if correctly not configured the setting file]
    How to do that.

The instruction manual is confusing.i means the FAQ section should be bigger with many general questions.
I read i have to edit the setting manually.Better if any GUI should be available to edit these setting file safely.
Please someone help with some step wise guide.

Hi, i,m wondering how i can configure windows 8 tool, so it will work with 2 disk system: on first ssd disk i place system partition and windows and on second hdd disk i want to place recovery partition. But how can i add this to "SettingsRE" and "ResetConfig.xml" which not allow to select different disk by adding strings like "select disk 0" "select disk 1"?

Microsoft requires that Windows, the Recovery environment and the Recovery image be on the same physical drive.

You will have to use another method, like TrueImage.

I am currently working on a "new" partition patern for Windows 8. It would look like this :

    - Recovery (Windows RE)
    - Boot
    - MSR (in UEFI mode only)
    - Windows
    - Recovery image

This way, once the USB recovery media has been created, you can ask Windows to delete the Image partition and regain the space.

Regular partition layout (with Windows RE + Recovery image on the same partition) will also be availble for Windows 8.

Nothing will be changed for Windows 7.

I am currently testing the base of my package. When ready for test, I will put it online for testing. If everything is good, it will then be added to the regular package.

Version 1.3.14 - Alpha is out. Seed first post.
This version has the recovery image on the last partition.

When using the XML file to install Windows, basic partition will be created. My Tools will create the recovery partition by shrinking the Windows partition during the installation process. The size of this partition is 12gb by default. To change it, edit the "SettingsRE.txt" file and the "ResetPartitions.txt" file to match your desired size.

I have tested it with Windows 8 - 64bits - MBR. Didn't test with UEFI.

Tell me if it works for you!

    Thanks.
