now all ok with 1.3.14 last wim, on win 8 with uefi bios !!!! thank you it' s ok . it ' s fantastic recovery media and partition recovery all great thank very beatyfull!! I hope you come soon the final version I hope you come soon the final version
The "Final" version will be when I won't plan to add anythig new and there will no more bugs.... I still have to create a instruction manual for the end use. As for the bugs, time will tell!
The partition are hidden in recovery environment the same way they are Under Windows. Showing them in RE will show them in Windows also. Regular end-user should not play with theses partition. For power user, you can always use DISKPART to assign a drive letter.
First of all I would like to thank AnarethoS for all your hard work! I have an issue and hope you guys here can help. I am trying to create a recovery partition on a Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet 2. The OS is Windows 8 Pro x86 and the BIOS is UEFI. I am using two flash drives for the whole process. One flash drive for the installation of Windows 8 and the other flash drive for the "autounattend.xml" and "Installer" folder. They are both connected with a USB hub as this tablet only has one USB port. Both flash drives are connected at the time I boot and I am able to boot to the setup. I choose the version of Windows 8 Pro then I delete all of the partitions and click on next. After the installation goes through it asks me for Computer Name and User Name. Per the instructions I thought it was not supposed to ask any of that and log in straight in to the Administrator Account. What am I doing wrong? I have a feeling that the Autounattend file is not being read. Any direction would be great. Thanks again AnarethoS for all of your hard work.
- Copy the AutoUnattend.xml file and the "Installer" folder on the keys with Windows 8 installation file on it to use only 1 USB key - 32bits version of Windows does not support UEFI/GPT. Either use the 64bits version of Windows or switch to MBR/BIOS mode
OK no problem, i can live with it, but I dont know if you realized that it had always in the past shown all hidden partitions on MBR, just seems the GPT are still hidden and it doesnt see it. just to test.....If i use a recovery USB key 1.3.14 and boot it via mbr it shows all hidden partitions on an MBR system. But if I use the same USB key and boot it via GPT it doesnt see the hidden partitions, kind of weird that its limited to not seeing GPT stuff. I'm guessing its the DOuble commander program itself having the issue..
It seems to be missing imagex from 32 and 64 bit folder any ideas why ? AnarethoS I have been using the old version, now called legacy for a long time and found it great and very useful Only issue ive ever found was that post recovery theres a ghosted C: drive in system Protection with (missing) after it...dunno why, but fixing it is just a quick disable protection on C: and re-enable... My question with this new version is why the following 2 features were changed/removed: 1) Less partition orientation optios in Windows 7. Now the only option as standard is recovery partition first, whereas i like to put it last to have windows on the fatest part of the drive. i realise i can restore this functionality by messing with the settings files in this version. Just wondering why you hard coded it to the first partition this version? 2) Why is DVD recovery media now gone? I have real concerns about giving anyone a recovery USB key and, especially in a house with kids, them not erasing it and reusing it for somethign else. With a burnt DVD this is impossible. At least for now ill continue using the old version, as i have no plans to ever let Windows 8 on any of my PC's and dont need the new version
@ Mardos....read the doc that is included and it will explain why imagex isnt included. @ stylemessiah...the reason for only using usb now is that all lappys now are made as thin design so they dont come with dvd drives anymore. The old legacy version you are using is no longer supported. Your first question AnarethoS will have to answer.
Is switching to MBR/BIOS as simple as disabling "Secure Boot"? That is the only option in the BIOS related to UEFI. I disabled "Secure Boot". and used the MBR "AutoUnattend.xml" file and it is reading the .xml file because it skips the part where it prompts to create the partition and goes straight in to setup. Now I get an error when it tries to create the partition. The error is below. "Windows Could not set the id for a partition on disk 0. The error occurred while applying the unattend answer file's <DiskConfiguration> setting. Error code:0x80042565" Again I am using the Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet 2 OS= Windows 8 Pro x86 (64bit is not supported on this device) Secured Boot = Disabled. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Just found out that my BIOS does not have "Legacy Mode" and it is forced to use UEFI. Also due to the Clover Trail System-on-a-chip limitations, the TT2 is 32-bit UEFI only. Does this mean I can not use this method to create a recovery partition. Is there any plans on making UEFI compatible with x86?
Well I am able to install Windows 8 Pro x86 without the AutoUnattend.xml file so I assume that x86 is compatible with UEFI. It came with a lenovo partition recovery so I am assuming it is possible. So it was my though that maybe AnarethoS just hasnt gotten it to work with his method of doing it. Right???
Then how am I able to install x86 on this tablet? That is what it comes with stock as well. Here is a quote from their documentaion. "•Due to the Clover Trail System-on-a-chip limitations, the TT2 is 32-bit UEFI only." (TT2=Thinkpad Tablet 2)... Are we talking about the same thing?
Hello, I was able to capture an image. Also i was able to restore with the fullrestore.cmd from my USB drive from the installer folder. However the recovery drive is not showing up under my computer it seems to be hidden, is this the norm? When i enter recovery environment using F8 selecting repair your computer and select "system image recovery" i get an error saying windows cannot find a system image on this computer. How can i restore from here? Or do i click Advanced options and select Full recovery ? Thanks
After you install x86 UEFI, open up diskpart and do a " list part" .....what partitions show?? if you have an MSR and EFI partition its UEFI for sure, if not then it did regular old MBR
I think the answer is that UEFI is already compatible with x86. Since I can install Windows x86 already. So wouldnt it come down to the AutoUnattend.xml file not having the entries for x86 like it does for the MBR/Legacy BIOS. Thanks for your help and insight by the way and fast response.
That was the first thing I tried and it started working. It actually finishes the setup process. Will I have to manually edit any other scripts in the installer folder since it was just made for "amd64"????
