1. Start install - Create partitions - Choose version to install 2. Configuring - Audit mode - Install what you want 3. Launch recovery tools - Install 4. Capturing - Now it will capture it right? - Then recovery console pops up 5. And then? Reboot "manually" & configure user? is all the above correct?? Btw i got an error during "starting services": Windows could not finish configuring the system. To attempt to resume configuration, restart the computer.
1. Start install - Create partitions - Choose version to install 2. Configuring - Audit mode - Install what you want 3. Launch recovery tools - Install 4. Your comp will restart after the recovery tool is finnished and the capturingproces will start before entering the syspreped Windows for the first time. Have you made the partitions exactly as described ?
yep i have created the 3 partitions exactly. However i can try this again later i think. I followed the instructions file.
You may try to NOT use the "Generalize" option. Sometime, it create problems with some software/drivers. and yes, I will add the option to burn to DVD. Probably in Beta 8 or 9. Beta 7 is out BTW!
Just finnish`d installing 64bit version updated, installed programs. Launched beta 7 and choose the generic option. Comp restarted but no capturing proces started ? the only thing that happens is that the recovery tool started. Did i do something wrong ?
- When the Recovery Tools launched, dit it asked to create the recovery image? - Using the file browser in Recovery Tools, can you check on the Recovery Drive (R: by default) that the WIM folder has a SWM file in it or not ? - Is there a "Capture. Now" file on the root of the Windows partition (W: by default) ?
It did not ask me to create recovery image. The only thing it ask for is English or French and there i choose English and nothing more happens. In the filebrowser (Double commander) there`s the partitions listed as C D E and X is the DVD C must be SYSTEM and D is the Windows part. and there i se Capture. Now E must be Recovery and n the WIM folder i se a file called Generic But maybe it has to do with the fact that i in my succesful atemt to boot into windows i used the tool to repair (cant remember exactly what) and i booted into windows whitc still was in AUDIT mode.
Do you think that the fact that i deleted the content of the temp folder after i finnish`d installing Updates and programs could be an issue ?
Is it only in the filebrowser that the windows part. should be W ? cause in your manual about Diskpart the assign letter should be C
Nope, I AM the issue When testing the "new" help file, I commented somme functions call in the main program (Recovery Environment) and forgot to uncomment them before compiling. New version fix that Since you have already installed everything, folow theses step to "uninstall" Beta 7 without having to format and reinstall - From the Recovery Environment, delete ALL FILES/FOLDERS from the Recovery Partition (including the WIM and WINPE folder and contents) - From the Recovery Environment, delete the BOOT folder and the BOOTMGR file from the SYSTEM partition - From the Recovery Environment, delete the RecoveryCreator folder in "Program Files" on the WINDOWS partition - Be sure to delete the Capture. Now file from the WINDOWS partition - Be sure to delete the Generic.Id file from the RECOVERY partition - Launch the Recovery Console and do a startup repair OR reboot from the Windows 7 DVD and do a Startup repair - Once into Windows, delete the "Recovery Tools and Media Creator" shortcut from the Start Menu - Launch installation of the new version Sorry
The section about DISKPART with the letter C is for INSTALLATION In the recovery Environment, letters are as follow : W=Windows, R=Recovery, S=System But, since in Beta7 I made errors, letters where NOT mounted correctly, there was no checking for the presence of Capture.Now. There was no option to capture the image. In fact, except the GUI, nothing worked.... Now fixed!
Right now i`m making an image of the windows part. using Acronis true image. Then i`ll do the Diskpart again and roll back the image. It will be much faster than starting all over. Then the assignletters should be right and i´ll try using the beta 8
To be hones im sick and tired of all the s**t i had the past 4 days now.. trying to install xp on a laptop and trying this + my gf have occupied my computer and it takes alot of time for me.. Is everything i wrote above correct?! Edit: What i mean is that if i do something wrong i have to do it all over again, to complete setup, audit etc takes 30-40 minutes total for me.. so if i do something wrong or it doesnt work it means it will take atleast 1 hour... and i just got my laptop working properly so i dont feel like messing it up now..
Don´t be sorry we all do mistakes. I made the Acronis thing before i saw this post. I did the Diskpart thing to make R S and C and restored the image made with Acronis to C One question is it ok to boot into the restored Windows part. and delete the Capture now and the beta 7 + shortcut from the Start Menu and then install beta 8 ?
Yep, good. Then, you can restore from the recovery tools. If you select the option "Repair Windows", all file from the Windows partition will be moved to a folder named Backup or BackupRepair (don't remeber) and the backup insge will be restored. For you error message, try without the generalize option. Since my software is still beta and new version come out nearly everyday, if you don't have time to test, I will sugest you to wait for the final version before really suing it, but it is up to you! Thanks a lot for your time btw!
Anatheros Read his post #218 He`s trying to use your tool on a Windows XP Is`nt this tool only for Windows 7 ?
Yes, only Windows 7, due to the fact that Vista/Xp did not came with the Recovery Environment. What I understood, is that he don't have much time for testing this software since he had to reinstall XP on his laptop (so, he can't test anymore this software).
