Thought so. Most of the systems I'm doing have both ssd & hdd. Just to install the OS I need to disconnect the hdd under windows 7 as the disk order is one way then flipped on a reboot. This has not happened using Win8/winpe4 or dos (for ghosting). I did assume that if winre was on disk 0 and I boot it, it would always be listed as disk 0 - this is not the case. Seems to only happen on intel chipset. Have never had this with amd...
Create a EI.CFG file and put it in the "sources" folder. Here is the content of the file : Code: [EditionID] [Channel] OEM [VL] 0
Hey AnarethoS! I think it's a great application - from what I read. I'm not sure if it's what I'm looking for, hence I'd like to ask if this is what I'm looking for. I basically want to create a "recovery" partition for a Windows 7 setup, which has Windows 7, drivers, AV (security essentials) and Microsoft Office installed. I did think along the lines of a complete hard disk partition backup and restore (it's for a laptop I bought), but I'd like it to be as simple as possible; also possibly on a USB-Stick or hidden partition. Would you try your program (yes - I do know the difference to regular partition restoring programs, but perhaps this one works too?)? Or would you e.g. create a recovery image using Windows 7 and then just boot + recover it from that stick or would you use some partition program such as one of the Acronis tools? Please excuse me for being a newbie in this regard - I'd reinstall Windows 7 every time, but since I'm installing from USB, I'd have to create a Windows 7 USB-Stick, which is USB3.0-enabled, because it didn't proceed with the installation otherwise.. besides installing all those endless updates etc. was a mess. Thanks everyone for your help in advance . divStar.
hi AnarethoS, i want to do this on my hard drive at 1rst install : View attachment 21947 i've done this picture, after install for exemple do you think it's possible, and recovery work? i'm on windows 8 or maybe with this partitions configuration : Recovery > Boot > Windows > Jeux* > Documents* (*= logical)
Yes, this can be done. You will have to modify the AutoUnattend.XML file to create the exact partition layout you want and edit the different configuration file to math the good partition number. Since you will have logical partition, I recommend you to use the version with the WIM file on the first partition, as I don't donw if Windows sill accept extended/logical partition to hold the WIM file. You will have to test for that. If you need particular help, you can contact me in PM... in French Have a nice day!
Well, software like Acronis and other allows you o backup a working Windows installation. My Tools is to create a base image before the creation of the user account. You can't use it to backup a working Windows installation. If you just want a solution to have a quick way to recover your computer to a working state, my Tools will do the trick. The recovery partition is hidded. You can also create a recovery USB key. Note that using the Recovery key erase verything. you can't keep your document when using it. You can keep them in "Windows.Old" when recoverying from the hidden partition.
if i can speak with you in french, that will be be a lot easier to do this ^^ i'll do some try and if i have a mistake i'll pm you

Hi AnarethoS Great thanks for the guide. Windows 8 is restored successfully. However, I didn't get it to work 100%. Below are some of my problem, hope you can help 1. Except for the drivers, all the installed apps (MS Office, etc...) are gone after backup process is done 2. The tool doesn't back up windows activation. It asked me to enter the license again or the windows isn't activated I followed your guide step by step. Please let me know where I could be wrong. Many thanks
I dont know about windows 8 but I know on windows 7 office 2010, vlc, gburner (added reg file to be installed during first logon for registration), winrar, imgburn, used wsus offline to install updates offline, hypersnap, ccleaner, adobe reader, ultraiso (added reg file to be installed also from first logon for registration), firefox, .net 4.5 and all vc run times installed perfect. OEM activated my windows 7 also. Even if I recover using function key or usb it installs everything and also activated incuding not only windows 7 but office 2010 as well. In fact I just used this on my wife's lappy without issues. Now firewalls and av's are not made to install during audit mode and even some apps will not work so it is a trial and error type procedure until you get it how you want it. Audit mode can be tricky but if you are familiar with the registry you could make it work by adding reg files to be installed during first logon or even installing them from a setupcomplete.cmd for win 7 or firstlogon.cmd for win 8 to do any installs that might be tricky (if a file is used by a app that uses the user area of folders and files like where the temp folder is for current user then that isnt setup yet for the end user therefor it will fail to install). Always a way around things. Even OEM manufactures do installs on first login so that should let ya know some things just wont install correctly from Audit mode. I would advise using vmware or something simuliar for testing till you get it how you want it.
Thanks for advice. I got my apps backed up successfully. I used Advanced Token Manager to backup my windows and ms office keys before doing OEM Recovery Partition. In Audit mode I restore windows and office activation from backup. They are activated. Then I made the recovery partition. However for the first logon only ms office is still activated, windows is not activated. I have to manually run the Advanced token manager again. Any idea to keep windows activation as well? Thanks
